Default Recruitment Consultants

I'm looking to change my job and have been approached to become a consultant. The package seems to be quite good, first year ote of £55k, second year ote £75k + a premium brand car.

I don't really know anything about the industry and was wondering if anyone on here has any experience or comments.

Forget OTE, ask what the BASIC is. OTE stands for on target earnings, or in laymans speach, you'll never reach them. If you dont know much about the industry, why do they want you?

They want me due to the experience that I have from my current role, my skills are very tranferable.

My I'm aware of what OTE stands for, my current OTE is £40k and I can do that all day long standing on my head.

Just beware, mate worked for a recruitment consultants and it ended 5 months later. He had impossible targets to reach and they were ruthless. Find out as much as you can about the job and what it entails before deciding and learn to spell transferable, it could be your downfall

One of them is based in bromley and the other based in the city. I'm wary as I've heard of full on horror stories on one hand, but stories of other people making £14k in one month!! Oh what to do, why am I so indecisive?!?!

3 series or a c class. The bird also said that if you smash the shit out of your target you get a porsche for a year.

(I bet the target would be impossible!)

The bird wasn't particularly forthcoming, just made it clear that they are above "all that high st nonsense". She mentioned that they have a wide customer base, including city banks and MTV.

I've got to call her back tomorrow for more info.

Defo worth looking into IMO... Dont rule anything out till you have heard the full sp....It isnt for me though dont really think I would enjoy it TBH...

Mrs is a rc in city been doing it 6 or 7 years now... she loves it

Go and see the agency/headhunter you have been dealing with, gleen as much as you can from her, go for an interview, find out some more, then if you want you can get in touch with the other half and she will know the lowdown on the company herself probably... or at least be able to answer any Q's you may have... I'm sure she wont mind.

BTW most blokes in Rcruitment are gay

Unbelieveably that professionalism has got him into an exec head hunting role on about £40k a year at 23. Bastard

I've given up on recruitment agencies. They all have the same people on their books, ignore the brief and put forward all the crap candidates, even after being told exactly what skills/experience/qualifications are required.

If I'm wasting my time sorting the crap, there is NO WAY on this green earth that I'm paying a % of first year earnings to the "consultant". The worst ones are those that don't even return your calls - they will NEVER earn a penny from me.

There may be good ones out there, but as both candidate and hirer, I've still to find them.

The company in question is a firm called Michael Page. A few other guys from where I work now left to work for MP and described it as hell!!!

The main reasons for leaving where I am now are that I want to reduce my working week to improve work/life balance, and gain a bit more stability where money is concerned.

Some months I'll take home £3.5k, others £1.1k WTF. 90% of the time the fluctuations aren't down to me, if Norwich Union don't fancy paying their bills for whatever reason it completely wipes out profit and therefore my commission. It is so frustrating!!!!!

THe right recruitment place will be mon-fri... but not necessarily 9-5....

I guess you could in theory get a basic of 20-30k... so that will take up some of the uncertainty during the "thin" months

Totally agree.

Seems if you can use a phone and take down questionnaire details you're suddenly up to consultant status these days.
