pc to tv converter

I'd need to know which one you refer to as there are many different types there.
Most are incorrectly described, as most are leads, which are NOT converters. As for the "box of tricks" converters - for that price I wouldn't expect much, if anything, from them.
A TV's interlaced signal is far different to that of a PC's RGB signal. For a start, whilst a video picture may be transmitted in RGB, the sync is only on green, whilst a PC has no green sync, instead it has a two stage sync - vertical sync and horizontal sync. Likewise, most PC's output video in progressive format, and TV (CRT) only accept interlaced (very few CRT TV's accept a progressive picture.
However, if your TV is of the plasma or LCD variety, you may well be in luck, as normall with these, the only thing that is needed is a transport lead. An LCD TV is basically a larger version of a PC monitor anyway, and many have (S)VGA inputs (the blue, analogue RGB input found on the back of 99% of PC's), so a simple (S)VGA lead from your PC to an LCD or plasma TV is all that is needed to display your desktop on your TV.

to be honest,
you would be better off pending the 30 quid on a new graphics card that has TV out, like any of the ati radeon 9200, 9250 etc,
just got a AGP 8X 9250 256mb with tv out for 30 quid from amazon for my media centre - then found even though the pic showed it as half height it was afull size card and wouldnt fit in my half height case,
so i found nvidia XFX6200 AGP with 256 mb on board that fits in nicely and has s video out - which is better than the composite out theat the ati gives with its adaptor.

a 25-30 quid graphics card IMO is a easier option than buying a 1K+ tv just to be able to see your pc screen on your tv... it is literally unplug your ld one and plug in the new one... then connect the s video cable to your tv

whats the quality like when connected to a tv? can you read web pages etc or is it not as crisp/clear as a pc monitor?
how does S-VIDEO compare to the blue (S)VGA connection mentioned above for picture quality ?

Testing the future
to be honest, for a forum like this, it's crap on an old tv with 640x480 pixels. fine for viewing photo's in low res or ripped dvd'd etc.
graphics cards available from any computer shop, ebuyer, amazon, pcworld etc, etc
