Default Whats the difference between the S1 and S2 Fuel pump relays?

I need to change the fuel pump relay on the s1, and ive heard that people use the s2 on on them instead. But ive noticed they are half the size, and dont have the spade connector for the single wire. so do they work? or do i need a specific s1 item?

Cheers for any help!

can't remember the answer to this one, but the purple plastic one is definitely not "plug and go"

The S1 relay has a rev limiter in it where as the S2 item had it in the Bosch ECU instead. The S1 relay is also driven off the ECU signal on pin 25 where as the S2 is driven by spark pulses from the coil. Ths S1 signal is about half of the S2 signal so I am not 100% sure if it will work properly.

Flip the lid off the S1 relay and check that the soldered joints are not cracked (dry soldered joint). If they are, just re solder them and it'll work again.

Hello peeps! thanks for your replies.

Right, think i have found the problem....

I tried a S2 relay out of a mates car, and as said, it didnt work at all. So scrapped that idea.

Car broke down again, so had a proper look and took all the relays out. I noiticed there was a constant buzz from on of the relays (black, think it was rear wiper relay) and when i wiggled the wires, it was cutting the power the to fuel pump relay.

So, ive unplugged the wiper relay, and its not been a problem since, so i think either dodgy relay, or earth for rear wiper. Shitty fords!

BUT, what i have managed to do, was break on of the pins off the silver relay (numbered 50) which is on its own away from the multi plug. What does this do, as the car still runs fine? it looks like an earth of somesort.

Cheers
Mike
