.. sorry am I the only person in existence that actually likes this film? Just exactly how maybe an alien species might make contact with us?

Its a down to earth si-fi, more talk than action, but once it gets going and you get going & you're envolved in it its brilliant.
It's got a few moments that make you you go "whoah" but its slow.
Still, I love it, makes me go "wow" in awe every time.

is that where they dropped that ball thingy through the spinny bits and that bird had a walk on the beach with that bloke and nothing really happened. if so i thought it was poo. lol.

It's not bad as such.... Sort of film I'd watch if it was on (whilst browsing PC) but wouldn't bother buying (or even downloading)
I have five different types of film;
1) Would rather have the TV turned off than watch it
2) Watch if it's on TV (but be browsing on PC)
3) Watch (properly) if it's on TV
4) worth a download
5) Buy it on DVD

I watched it again 
I wanna get the extended version which has an extra bit in the beach scene which actually explains things in more detail.

One of my fav films
Have it on DVD and seen it 6/7 times now
Can understand why some people might not like it as it is very slow in places.
However, im into that kinda thing and there is some particularly 'thought provoking' ideas and parts to the film.
The ending is very frustrating (ala 2001) but very clever at the same time.
Dont normally like jodie foster but shes very good in this.

And details exactly why I like this film, as said has everything and doesn't skimp on plot for the sake of effects!
When she steps on the gantry to the pod for the first time and you have a decent tv & audio equipment the rings passing under just throb pure power and still make be go wow.
But realisticly that's exactly how a alien race would respond to us and how humanity would respond too!!
Plus all the drama from the characters makes it worth watching too.
Definitely one I need for my collection.
