Default RS Turbo Kit car

Hey guys! 1st post or so in freakin ages! I need some advice on this engine im putting in my kit car! I got hold of an Series 1 RS turbo engine and so far have cleaned it up and put the engine in, currently in the process of hacking the wiring loom and fitting intercooler and pipe work etc. Ive just had the inlet manifold done and i think its come out pretty well, still needs a clean mind! The block is a fiesta bottom end, the rest is all S1 RS Turbo stuff. My m8 mentioned this engine on here a while back 2 find out exactly what it was.

I was wondering if someone has a S1 RS Turbo wiring loom diagram to hand as i cant find one anywhere!, the Ford agents arent willing to hand them out, ive tried!

Does the KE-Jetronic system use a Lambda Sensor??

The inlet manifold on there atm is from an XR3i and still has the butterfly body attached, if i fit the TPS switch to it can i adjust the ECU to take into account the larger sized butterfly?

Why does the RS Turbo have 2 ECU's (black and silver). The only diagrams i have seen only show the use of one?

Can someone identify the Turbo on the engine, its a Garrett AIResearch T3 with an A/R of .42, but looking on google, i havent come across one of this style on other RST's It has a 2 bolt fixing on the inlet side which the actuator bracket fixes to. On the outlet side it also has a 2 bolt fixing for the boost pipe to attach to. It is not watercooled.

Ive never driven an RST before and dont know how the engine behaves, can some1 tell me what rpm the turbo comes into play and what they are kinda like to drive on standard tune and also with around 170bhp? If the bottom end is good i have intentions to do some mild porting, cam and adding solid lifters to give me a rev happy engine!

If you guys could answer some of those questions i will be more than happy! cheers.

here are some photo's taken 2day!

Cool, but surely your better off turning the turbo the other way up so it faces forwards?

Im going to spin the compressor housing around. I originally tried it the other way round but ive got nowhere to mount the air metering unit. Thats only place it fits sensibly. A bonus is that the exhaust will come out the existing hole!

All i can tell you is that the Black ecu is for the fuel

As for the Turbo being aircooled that sounds lie the S1 turbo

Driver from a std spec rst is ok in a kit car should be more fun 170bhp is a nice power my m8s s2 was 198ish and it pulled you all over the road but saying that in the kit car its rwd so hey go for as much as you can and have fun

the ke- jetronic doesnt use lambda

the ecus, the silver one controls your boost and igntion, and the black one controls the fuelling

turbo looks and sounds like a std s1 turbo s there are not watercooled

the car does look nice and is different using the rst engine

but if you have a frst bottom end , then i would think about changing the top end to efi using fiesta stuff and ditch the metering unit

plus be a lot easier to wire in once you get the loom and ecu

Can I suggest that you use EFi instead of the Mfi. You have a Fiesta turbo block so it already has the mount for the flywheel sensor. This way you can do away with the metering unit as it doesnt look like you have a lot of space. You will need to sort out a fuel rail and injectors etc.

Yea was thinking about going EFI, but im on a really tight budget, fiesta stuff seems to be really expensive. plus i'd have to install injectors into the MFI inlet manifold.

well by the looks of it the xr3i inlet has been welded onto something

so alls you do is weld the xr3i inlet again but onto a base for frst item

theres your holders for injectors and rail aswell

but you will ned a efi head aswell

will give you loads more room aswell once the mfi is out of teh way
