Default Work bother...

I'm currently working part time for tesco whilst im at uni.
Recently though, new managers have came in, and the place is a fucking shithole, no one is happy with the way its run and generally feel the new managers have no people skills etc etc...

I really hate it, to the extent of dreading going every shift, BUT... it pays good money for a student job and its walking distance from my house, so no travelling expenses.

Anyway, i've managed to get an interview for a large car sales company on friday afternoon for a Rental Operator.

This pays 60p p/h less... and is further away, but i rekon ill enjoy it more. However ive not been offered the job yet, so im not counting my chickens...

So, should i hack it in a job i hate for more money, or go elsewhere and take less money, but probably enjoy the job?

60p per hour is a fair loss a month plus the extra traveling expenses with the further away job, so i'd stay at the unhappy job, at the end of the day, you work to get Ł and Ł is what you work for/want! wanky managers are a small price to pay really for having a job within walking distance etc. Just keep your head down an get on with it imo,you could end up hating the new job with worse managers!

Doing what you enjoy is half the battle going to work.

mixed opinions

I should say, the new job isnt alot further, probably a 15minute walk, or a 5 minute drive.
I really think the environment in a showroom/garage would be much more my thing however the money is making me think twice.

i would go with a job you enjoy, especially if you can get the hours you want maybe if you could get a few hours extra you wont miss the money so much?

i love my job but my hours have been cut down, and i get paid really good for my age so im off to look for a new job with more hours even if it doesnt pay as much p/h

Good help folks! keep it coming!

Just to point out, as far as i know, there is no comission, the job is a rental operator, so i would be dealing purely with the rental side of the garage, cars in and out etc.

Whilst I used to be a firm beliver that if you were happy in your work , you are more likely to be happy in life in general, and as such, a lesser paid but better job is better than a higher paid but shit job - I have come to realise that happiness doesn't pay bills....

Now I would rather be in a job I dislike but pays me enough to have better quality of life, as opposed to be in a job I love, but means I am skint all the time.....

1st can you afford to be paid less,if yes...will you be happy to do the new job...if yes then go for it.

Other thing to consider,i dont know how old you are but things to consider anyway in both jobs not just the one your in now, things like pensions is there a scheme?

hours more or less, start and finish times and how it might affect you ?

how do the people come accross who already work at the new place...in fact ask one when you walk round, on the sly of coarse"whats it like here, how are the bosses to work for?"

Ask a worker at the new place hows the money in the real world, not just what your supposed to earn, but without bonuses ect?

Is there any movement in the company,ie can you get premoted and is there any room to be.

Do they have a quick staff turn around or do the workers stay until they die??

All questions that i would askand you should too, before you make any decisions,

Remember the grass isn't always greener

Ann on that note ill open meself another beer...................

St3v3 - Superb advice, appreciated

I can afford to be paid a bit less, only outgoing ive got is insurance and mobile phone bill, less than Ł90 in total, so no real problem.

The hours are probably going to be a bit less, but im hoping the option for overtime is available.

As a student, im not really that bothered about promotion or pensions schemes at the moment, unless i decide to further my career in the company, which is possible, but will be in 2 years time anyway.

Thrush, good point mate, im lucky to be in the position of having very few bills, so it shouldnt affect my quality of life too much.

WHich is exactly what I have been saying for the past 5years or so - but now I am in the process of buying a house and looking at the huge bills etc involved with that, I wished I had wised up all those years ago - might have a bit more money behind me now if I had, which would make life a bit easier! And may well have been in a better paid job which again would make life easier when trying to finance a house buy on my own!
