Mondeo head gasket

It was a 1.8 zetec.
The cambelt side of it is actually pretty easy and the aux belt tensioner etc is a really nice system, its just getting the inlet off the head that is an awkward bastard, and getting off some of the bits you have to remove to get to it, like the alternator.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
soooo much easier to do in a smaller car like esort of mk3 fiesta, daft really. just because of the design of the inlet and position of alternator etc etc.
that fucking LPG shite didnt help either.

Mondeo Zetecs are a CUNT to work on
Even removing and refitting an engine is a royal pain in the ringpiece compared to most cars.
Mine is in and running again now, though cause of the GAY cable change gear linkage adjuster being flimsy and shite i only have 1st to 4th and reverse, no 5th
Never touching one again, next time it breaks, im gonna burn it.

Engine out to replace the clutch
Its only a 4 hour job to drop out the subframe and take the box out to change the clutch, surely you cant take the engine in and out in that time

You can buy the locating pins for under 20 quid ( a lot cheaper than taking it to the dealer for an alignment check ) and you can also buy the C shaped 18mm spanner for taking out the steering rack bolts before you drop the subframe. Both these tools make the job a whole lot easier, unless of course you are unlucky enough to have one of the subframe mounting bolts shear off the welds on the locking nut inside the chassis
Thats happened to me quite a few times and makes the job a whole lot worse when it happens, even more so if you are doing it as a homer

the head gasket is a peice of poo to do , i'm doing one tomorow for a mate .
you leave inlet manifold on just undo the big multi plug for the loom for inlet manifold and it all comes off with the head
the only bad ish bolt is one of the bolts that holds the cradel to the head that the coil pack site on !!!
as for clutch's just drop subframe and use said pins to line it all back up .
but saying that we all have our own way of doing things
off for more beer now

PassionFord Post Whore!!
If you have a crane and are doing it at home then take the engine out to do the clutch. If you're doing it on a 2 poster with the right tools then dropping the subframe is a piece of piss and not the ball-ache everyone makes it out to be, although i can understand what a prick it will be doing it on the drive.

Fucking peice of piss!!! Both to change the engine and the head gasket youy pair of fooking wimps.
You want to do a 1400 Tigra/Corsa headgasket. It'd be easier to wait for the head to corrode off on those things!

C or U shaped 18mm spanner for Mondeo stearing rack bolts
Where can I buy this 18mm C shaped spanner?

20K+ Super Poster.
Get an auto mondy and the steering rack bolts are the other way up so easy, recently done a h/gasket on one(dads), bit of a long job but easy enough, lot of crap to take off, although removed the PULSE AIR long ago god it runs better without it, even cold.

nah seriously, mucho respect to you if you are with it being such a male oriented profession.
c shaped spanner, don't honestly know, probably easier to make your own, heat it up/bend it to shape etc. gas cookers are ace to heat things btw!

head gaskets on mondeos are a pice of piss, if your doing a clutch on one aswell you dont have to take the subframe out either just drop one side of it down and wege the box in the gap inbetween the innerwing and the subframe then swap the clutch over and put it all back together, ive done loads like that and never damaged or ahd to realign any thing

Mondeo's are piss easy full stop.
While doing a 24v loom i supervised a mate's son taking one out he had never done it before and still had the engine and box out in 90 min.
Head gaskets are a little bit of a pain but i always remove the head with inlet and exhaust still on it
