Stavros - is this related to your own balloon inflator/turbo combination
Noticed that in the early videos of the S4 it doesnt the make the dump valve sound?
I assume the set up was changed but fook me does it sound good
Would have been amazing to see the develop properly

The bypass is used for idle and off/light throttle. You get horrendous pre-throttle boost spikes off throttle if you didnt have a bypass of some sort then, high enough to break summat.

Officially the most powerful works S4 car produced 550 horsepower (410 kW). Unofficial figures claimed this S4 could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h on gravel in just 2.5 seconds. Henri Toivonen drove this very car on the 1986 Corsican Rally, where the Finnish driver inexplicably missed a tight left-hand hairpin bend and plunged into a ravine, where the S4's fuel tanks exploded.
Awesome car but many people believe they are more powerful than they actually were, it was the power to weight ratio that made the S4 something special

I know for a fact the only vehicles (2 cars and a good few big rig trucks) ive seen with this system (ie turbo blowing thru charger) do not bypass on boost, as it would defy half the reasoning for it. Infact a few of the people laughed when I asked them about that side of things.
All off them had bypasses though, the two cars used adapted external wastegates, and the trucks used something similar but seemingly custom made. All the bypasses were for off throttle and low throttle running.
The one car previously had no bypass at all, but this caused issues due to the throttle being downstream of the supercharger meant there was huge pre throttle boost spikes when he let off the gas, causing extra heat, mega loud whining front the charger as its working hard against a shut throttle, and even a bent throttle plate and split intercooler.
He solved it by adding a second throttle pre supercharger too, but fitting the bypass to be open at light and no throttle made the biggest difference to drivability.

oh my mistake i thought i heard of a twin turboed supercharged one, obviously not.
Still fantastic...and regard Henri's crash apparently he was suffering from the flu...my opinion is that an S4 and flu could never mix

It was for off/light throttle running im almost sure (as they need one then for reasons ive explained above), as it serves no purpose bypassing when on boost, lots of downsides to that too.
