Default Update

If you have read my last couple of posts you will know Im having bother with my cosworth.

I have ruled out the TPs switch after much fannying on today, map sensor looks brand new too. It sounds as if timing is all to shit when it starts. Its still flooding up but will run for a few seconds if you hold about half throttle, it will rev then drop off rev then drop off a few times over before it cuts out. Then it wont start again for a few minutes and does the same when it does.

Timing looks like its out around 2 teeth out on exhaust cam pulley. Its got Kent pulleys on so Im only going from someone elses paint markings. No proper markings on the pulley.

Anyone experienced this before or able to give me a suggestion to try?
Please please please, Im sick to the back teeth of this. I just wanna drive her!

Thanks in advance and thanks to all those who have helped and suggested things so far.

Hmm. missed your posts pal, but always start at teh start...

What were the symptoms that led to this? Was it ok to start with, driving fine one min then bang, game over, or was it a gradual loss of performance, give me a little background info to save me reading lots of different threads...

I had the same problem with my 3 door, i changed the cps sensor and it was fine, then it started playing up again ,would start rev up then cut out. Rang my mate who said it sounded like the ignition amp , Changed that and it was SORTED
Also put a new fuel pump and filter on,but that didnt make any difference

Oh and i changed the fuel pressure regulator

Hi lawnsy i used to own bigern's white cossie before him, i cant understand why it keeps doing that mixing oil and water i had it for a long time and never had a problem, im glad your making use out of my old stud and nut kit !! i personally think after speaking with bigern that there is a problem with the block being pourus or something along those lines

It was decked 14 thou when i had the engine built so let him know this as having it done more might make it tight in the piston to valve clearance as it was already skimmed before i done it but cant remember how much.

I got the block skimmed again myself when I re built it so I wouldnt do it again. I told mick that the piston liner had cracked on me but I only got one replaced, so my guess was another liner had gave up cos it was just as old and weak as the first one. I was gonna put a block in it to be safe. If Karl wants one I can get him a standard 205 Cosworth block from a mate.

There was sod all wrong with the head, was corroded when I got it but a skim sorted it and it was pressure tested fine. Dunno if he had it done since but I really doubt thats what it was. He needs to get the block pressure tested and that will reveal his problem.
