Default Newish shape M3, questions??

As there are a few M3 owners on here, (Davescos, carlo) to name a few, i was hoping anyone could let me know what models are available?

Im thinking of getting one in the new year, either that or an Evo 6 or 8.

All i know is M3 and M3 Evo.

What is the difference, whats better, what is the power of them?

Also how do they compare to Evo's and Cossies? At what sort of power are these sort of cars saying bye bye to the M3?

Thanks.

M3 and M3 evo is for the E36 (my shape)

the new one's the M3 vs M3 CSL

the CSL is the proper trackc ar style one with bits made of carbon fibre and everything.

from memory theyre 340bhp? 6speed manual or SMG.

oh, and theyre FUCKING COOL and i WANT ONE

having driven both and own a e36 i couldn't justify the extra money to upgrade to a e46.
don't get me wrong there wonderfull cars but for the extra 12k+ there's not a great deal difference in the drive and personally imo the e36 drives nicer and handles better.

there is a big difference

i have test driven 2 e36 m3 evo and there were pants and did not feel that quick, went round the speedo quick just didnt feel it

when i have been out in a e46 m3 it felt much MORE raucous than an e36

been out in a smg e46 m3 and a csl, feel powerful and go very well and in my opinion a much better car than an e36 m3 or m3 evo

e46 m3 all the way

Hello mate.... I work for a private car trader who deals in Sports and Prestige cars and we have alot to do with BMW's , i have had the pleasure of driving a wide range of M3's and if you can afford it then get a CSL these cars are well under estamated,i have driven one a few times(my bosses run about ) and it amazes me everytime i get in. fantastic peice of kit they are 360bhp and the sound of the engine on full chat is mind blowing, get a test drive and you will see what i mean

Not owned either, but have driven a bunch of em, both E36 and E46, and IMO, the 46 is the one to have. Just purely for build quality alone, plus I think they feel nicer and look better.... The E46, is, IMO, one of the best engineered cars BMW ever made, and I have as yet to find a bad one - stripping the door cards and interior parts, along with scuttles etc, I've not had one yet that hasn't gone back together EXACTLY the way it came apart, yet I get loads of E36 models that just don't fit when you put em back together...

With all that in mind tho, I wouldn't ever buy an E46 M3 as I simply don't like em - looks wise. I much prefer to cleaner, smoother lines of the 330Ci models, which I think look nicer than the M3...

Nah mate - I work for autoglass, and these fuckers are constantly getting broken into Most common is the convertibles (either both door windows smashed or both opening rear quarter windows) as the hard top covers fetch a lot of money and windscreens, as a lot of reps hoon em up and down motorways.... Had a nice deisel Ci model in last week for a new screen - it was only 8 months old! Rep got it new 8months ago, already needs a new screen (had abotu 5 chips on it, can only repair a max of three) and it had already done about 18k My van is a 55reg and has only done 10k

Rarely, but yeah, sometimes.

Had a Ka a while ago that we went to put a new screen in. Took the old one out, and when putting the new one in, it was super super tight to the edges. Told them I didn't like it very much and expected it to stress crack cos it was so tight, and was told by customer that the car had been squished by a lorry (sidewipe while it was parked) against a wall, and obviously the repair was tat good as it was about 1cm narrower that it should be

Also had a Beemer (E36) that had been rolled. Looked really good after the repair (we cut screen out for body shop then went back a few weeks later to fit new one) and when we put it in, the curve of the roof line didn't match the screen at all and ended up with the corners sitting flush, and then the roof curve dropped till he had a near 1" gap in the middle between screen and roof

As said only M3 and CSL in E46 shape!

330bhp cossie would give std one a run for money. but thats not always the point! They are totally better cars in std form.

And imo they are much much better than E36 one!!!

thousands of people buy 'NEW' cars which lose money all the time

its part of life mate

if you can afford to do it GO FOR IT

for insgance, buy a cossie for 4k spend 6k on it and sell it for 5k

you lose money whether it be a 30k m3 or a 3k cossie

E36 M3's are very good value performance cars, theirs nothing wrong with them, mine was spot on for 3yrs & took all the abuse i gave it & never ever once went wrong just servicing & plenty of rear tyres.

A couple of mates have had an e36 m3, they said they have been really good cars, the main reason i'm not too keen is that they everyone 'appears' to have an M3 in that shape (even 318i owners )

At least with the e46 shape, its a little more difficult to replicate them.

Xr2i chap or whatever ur name is.

I could stretch to a CSL however I will be choosing an M3 Evo in the next couple of months. Thats an E36 m3 Evo. All this talk about the e46 being the bomb etc and the e36 being shit, is indeed just that shit.

I want to buy a car that I can afford to put a roll cage, bucket seat etc in. To do that to an E46 writes off the best part of Ł25k on the spot. To then drive it round the ring, rather committed and to regularily risk Ł25k or Ł30k in the case of a CSL ( bearing in mind there is a good chance u wont be covered by insurance if u total it ) is just pure stupid. You have to be WAY beyond the ability to afford one of these cars to do that, infact u have to be able to AFFORD TO LOSE one of these cars. I had my heart set on a CSL then sat down and had a thought about it. The extra fun factor just cannot be high enough to justify Ł18k extra ( Ł12k vs Ł30k )

So all this talk of E36 being shit and E46 being the bomb is rubbish. I have driven both. The e46 makes for an awesome drive and I loved it, however once I rip out the interior, stick a cage in it, some AP's, track suspension and a bucket seat, I will be having plenty fun in my Ł12k motor and more than likely with a little bit of practice in the new car will be lapping the Nurburgring down below 8:30, with the knowledge that a major accident will not leave me with INCREDIBLE monthly payments that a CSL would come with, paying off a pile of scrap.

All the M3's are great cars, just buy the one u want and like always, test drive the lot of them.

Cheers

RW

Wow, thanks guys for all the replies This is the first time ive been on since posting it up

Think im going to have to test drive one this week

Reason i havent mentioned the E36 is because, well they are old now and im looking for something that is a bit newer and i can use daily, oh and looks the part. I have always liked the look of the E36 but as said they are getting on abit now, plus, now im not critising anyone on here, but there seems to be alot more of them about now, as they are obviously cheaper now and it tends to be young lads in them because they are 'cheap' and they think they are really fast as they have an 'm3' and just seem to rag them about

So being 360bhp, how can a 330bhp cossie still be quicker?? How are they compared to Mitsi Evo's??

Quick Reply: Newish shape M3, questions??
