Default Electric shavers-what do you recommend

Have always used Gilette Razors and currently the Mach 3 - I am tempted by an electric shaver but don't want to buy one and find out it's complete crap
do they shave as well as a razor and which ones are good-dont fancy spending 100 quid and it's worse than a BIC
Cheers

they dont shave aswell as a wet shave! ive used a few but at the mo use a three head type! it does take ages to get a nice shave, and i have to keep going over and over! much nicer for a quick shave though

I used to keep one in the glovebox for a mid-afternoon freshen-up.
That's about all they are any good for.

Get youuself a cheap cordless head shaver instead. Use that to get it right down then use the Gillete for the rest. Far quicker.

How thick is it?

Ive just bought one of the supposidly superb 100% in reviews Philips Philishave SmartXL razor... My old Remington was getting shite so bought the philips one as it was reduced to £130 from £200 which was well over what I wanted to spend anyway but thought fook it, if it lasts it will be worth it. I expected it to be the bollox but very disappointed so far. It doesnt cut as close as my old foil razor (electric) and its left me chin sore! Gonna give it a few more days trial and will take it back if not convinced!!!

they don't pick up those flat hairs so you tend to go over again the the blade anyway

but they are great for top lip and the corners of your mouth

but the throat around the adams apple area is blade only i've found

no where near as good as a blade but damn easier and cheaper in the long run!

i use a braun foil thing with moving head to get round the curves but its not great.
as said you have to go over a good few times to get it smooth and even then its not that close....gets a bit sore going over the neck so many times and all...

mines a cordless water proof one and like i say not bad but not the best.

next time ill go for the fully floating head with the aloe vera sachets

Ive always used an electric one since i started shaving about4-5 years ago.
Im using a philips 2 head rechargeable, its a really good shave as long as you dont let yourself get too long obviously(which i dont so its ideal for me) and this is the only shaver ive had, still going strong

I've used a Philishave 3 head one ever since I started shaving. It is a tough call as I do like the ease of shaving with the electric one but it does give a rash and can miss loads of hairs on me.

Alledgedly they also screw up the way your hair grows as well if you use them all the time? I know that I get loads of hairs growing flat just under the skin these days so that could be from using electric too often!

Same as Rhys and Phil

Always used electric, mainly a 3head Philips one, awesome things OK, they're not as close as a razor, but for the 2 days a year I need a real close shave I use my Mach3.

But for everyday they are awesome, have a shave in no time at all, no hassle, close enough to look shaved + tidy, can't beat a last minute shave in the car either

The other thing I notice with them, when you've not shaved for a week or so and have a lot of stubble, the electric ones cut through it easily and doesnt drag like a razor would.
