Default MR2 Turbo Information please

As title really.

Anyone know much about them, ive been offered a dirt cheap J-reg turbo but know fek all about em.

I know its got tein suspension which is rock solid and goes like stink but thats all.

Im assuming they have huge tuning potential.

they are stupid fast and can be tuned reasonably well if you knwow aht your doing.

www.mr2oc.co.uk if you more info, they've got all orts on there.

as it's a J reg, i personally drive a J reg, i'd be wary of the following....Sills for rust as well as arches - Front Anti Roll Bar Mountings, theck they havent broken away from the car (common fault they often require welding back on ) had to do it with mine - Droplinks for excess wear - front undertrays, signs of a ragged car will be worn away or missing undertrays, the tend to fly off at about 90....again experienced this myself. but apart from that theyre generally good motors!

Good cars.
Engine is good for over 600bhp if you wanted.
Even ones with over 300bhp feel like they can handle loads more, chassis wise they seem good.
Great traction too.

The difference in performance between one running standard boost and 1bar (both with big zorsts etc) is comedy, esp at motorway speeds, so much so it seems like the std boost one isnt actually trying...

J reg aint the best starting point being Rev 1 and Air Flow Meter type.

They can be made to go very well, but obviously engine location can be a limitation as far as cooling issues are concerned.

Can't really think of one UK tuner that's been ultra successful with them, although there are a few 10 second cars kicking about in the states, and a couple of 11 second cars over here.

Good fun on track out the box. Handle quite nicely, and nothing like the hairdresser image people assume they have.

Getting shot of mine now, as I want a change, but have enjoyed owning mine over the past year.

no wonder a nice increase to 15psi yields such good results.

my evo just made 85bhp over standard with 0.35 bar / 6 psi

PhilC - Its 1500 quid and looks very tidy. Just needs an mot and a rear wheel bearing (ive known the car so hopefully wont need a lot else), dont want to break it though.

Its got Tein coil overs (hopefully i can soften them!).
And a stainless exhaust.

New alloys and tyres because the original tyres are apparently hard to get hold of?

Looking forward to getting it TBH
