I also think only you will know which job you will be happy in. if you were happy valeting then go for it. if you hated then stay put.
Does this make sense?

well mate from expeirience, you need to do what you feel makes you happy.
i was assistant manager in an accessory shop ,been there 11 years.then thought i need more cash so went to sell cars for ford.i was there 4 days then went back where i was cos i hated the job.it bored me,had very little interaction with people.didnt feel good when i sold the car and wasnt interested in it.plus the boss was a dick.
im back as assistant manager again and although the cash is shit i love the job and 98 per cent of the people i deal with.
i love cleaning cars but i wouldnt do it cos it would take the pleasure out of it for me i think.
what you need to do is weigh up if you need the cash, because possible promotion could get you lots in the future or if you want to be happy.

Nill what sort of place do you work at? A Hellfords? A1? independant?
Just curious - Im at an A1 branded independant.
Sorry marcy - didnt mean to hijack your thread, Id quit car sales if your only on 14k and no benefits.
You should at least be on a decent commision rate IMO
Plus a van and a phone has got to be worth a few quid on top

Basically, if you need to earn more money, then you have to do a job that pays that money, like it or not.....

i dont exactly need the money but when you take in to consideration i wont have to insure pay for tax or mot the car plus earn roughly 25k with all bonuses after tax its looking even more tempting coz that is 2k a month rather than roughly about 950 coz thats what i took home last month

Have you spoken to your boss about your current package. £14k seems very low, especially for the job. is that a basic with massive commission on a sale, or is that inclusive?
Are you happy where you are? if you need more cash you could always do a couple of shifts in your local. Then you get paid to socialise with the regulars and your mates. Thats what I do (although my bar job has the benefit of being cash in hand)

Legend
Exactly what big chez said.
£5k a year is what, about £80 a week after the dreaded? Are you currently struggling to run a car and phone so that you'd NEED them provided?
If you love your job selling cars and didn't particularly like valeting, get a job 2 evenings a week delivering pizza!
You WILL NOT be on £14k for ever if you're any good, just look at the salaries in the back of the trade magazines and keep your eye on the future
You get one go at life [unless you're a buddhist ] so why spend it doing something you're indifferent about?

20k a year? I'd take it. Used to work for Motorclaen, could only dream of making that sort of money with them! Most of the valeting jobs round here seem to pay around 10-12k max hence why I'm in the process of trying to raise funds to go it alone.
