I have allways had concerns, about the head. it just went like that. misfiring , then the smoke. My engine builder says that after wking on cossies for 25 years, hes never had a head gasket go on him. makes me think hope its not mega buckes.

gaskets usually go cause of det, esp if they new and have been torqued down right.

they usually made to be the weak link, the mega cyl pressure det gives has to smash summat, rather it be head gasket than conrods or pistons.

was it properly setup/mapped?

basically imagine the peak cyl pressure inside your engine, it is literally hundreds , if not thousands of psi.

so much so that a few psi extra boost is insigificant as a pressure, ie the pressure itself wont blow the gasket.

but when an engine is detting (often due to that extra boost pressure not being mapped for properly) the peak cyl pressure rises hugely (upto 500%), thats what blows gaskets etc.

when people say too much boost blew the gasket, its rarely the actual pressure when running right, its the pressure when its detting.
