on the Escos, I mean with a top tuner , with say a 400bhp engine, could they use the cylinder head and block, the car in question has only done 20k so they are in perfect nick, whats required bar the engine- management, turbo what else....
Can someone give me close prices from the like of SCS,and MAD etc.

Brannen that will be on std engine

Mark when you look at it like that, from std to 350bhp and on new management, the price is not all that bad!

Thing is you don't NEED to change to aftermarket management to get 350hp a L8 ECU is up to the job and very cheap!
Not an Autronics slagging post !

BUT a secondhand L8 costs £150 at the most and why would he need to buy new? It's an O.E. part that WILL do the job which will save the guy money which can be spent elseware! This is still not an Autronics slagging post

Then you need him to set a budget and weather he wants new or used.

It has nothing to do with the weather Some second hand parts are acceptable i.e. a L8 ECU others are not i.e. a 10yr old+ loom. I don't mind using stuff that's not new as long as it does not compromise reliability... it makes the bill cheaper or allows money to be spent elsewhere!!!

See a few cossie been converted from small to big
You also need to add chip/ecu/Injectors/dizzy/coil/mapsensor/leads/front pully/crank sensor/water temp sensor/air temp/rev counter, There maybe a couple of other bits but I cant remeber them, or you could also add a MSD coil pack driver for the twin coils, So the cost will add up quickly.

but the guy was asking about 400hp! it's easy to cut corners and make things look cheap but long term an old loom is more trouble than it's worth... sorry if that goes against the grain!

Realistically on a standard engine on pump fuel and with a T34 you wont be seeing 400bhp anyway, so its all acedemic, lol

People seem to be forgetting as well that he can sell his existing parts in the prices above.

Done 2nd hand DIY doesnt need to cost over a grand IMHO by the time you sell bits off to make up for what you have bought.

I didnt see he wanted 400hp you would need to add another 2k and you would see over 400hp with a T38, I have just done one to this spec and it was very impressive totaly stock bottom end with a ported head and T38.

The subject title is pretty misleading, makes it sound like all he wants is a T34, then he goes onto mention the 400bhp later on, which is obvioulsy a lot more than just a BT conversion

Just to throw a spanner in the works..................

Interpro do a conversion where they keep all of the Small Turbo standard management, sensors etc, but fit a roller bearing turbo (MD??? "disco potato").............It works very well, Belle (Bristol Group) has this conversion on her Es Cos, and it is a very quick car (approx 350 BHP).

It was'nt a cheap conversion, as when she had the work done (about 4 years ago) these "new" roller bearing turbos we're about £ 2 K
