Default Best spec cossies....

Whats your idea of best spec cossie (engine wise) for use everyday, or most days?

IMO my Saff was great when i firt got it, ie Greens 4x4 ic and hybrid T3. It pulled well enough and little lag. This imo was much better than when i chucked the T34 on there. Plus it was also very reliable and not scared to break anything

What u lot think best for everyday use?

My brother's old spec:

7.8:1, T34 .48, greens.

That car was awesome when setup properly.

My 385bhp engine (four 803s), standard engine bar 7.8:1 c/r (achieved with 4x4 pistons / 2wd head), 200 block, three angled valves / seats, RS500 intercooler, L8 ECU, T34/0.48 a/r turbo (with inconnel shaft on wastegate) = 12.64 @115mph quarter and 172mph top speed. PERFECT road engine and good on track, if a bit wheezy at top end.

i am considering another NMS Gunship for my next cossie - the way our roads are going, anything with more than 2bhp will be useless anyway

i think DOO's got it right well within the limits of the trandmission totally drivable and punchy car

still think its been the best feature in a mag for a while coz i think people are gettin to carried away with topend speeds when they forget how many roads can u do it on

GT35 .82 external wastgate with screamer pipe,4 x 1000cc injectors,swedish plenum,Grp A ported head,lairy cams,WRC head gasket,Radtec cooler,Grp A fuel pump...NMS map on Level 8 ecu...boost from 0.4bar to 2.5bar

Economical off boost, drives nice stick it on 1.5bar more than enuff power....but if you feel you need to cum, shit all at the same time wack it to 2.5bar...but please have no passengers as there shit and cum aint nice to clear up...unless you are into that kinda thing.

Fair point Phil

Last time i asked Rod how often he drives it, he said he liked to drive it to work on a Friday.

Used every day with that spec maybe, but not a huge amount of fun on the ROAD really barring straight lines.

Ive driven a car with that sorta spec (Reyland Sierra) and that sorta powerband isnt for me, and i know how to change down a gear unlike some, and i still dont like it

Too much like hard work for me, for a road car i like a more point n squirt car, something you can have fun even on tighter smaller stretches of road.

Nikcy you fail to see the question, where that is good spec, its not really pratical for use every day?

I would say a lightly breath upon engine is better than heavly one. Due to the fact of reliability, running costs etc?

Maybe a T34 with .55 running 25psi would be good?

MikeR spec is very good, but i would imagine it would cost a fair whack to get that in the first palce, and the tendacy to use that everyday and where it out quickly would soon dissapear for a lot of people?

What would you think the self life of your engine is Mike?

it was a good every day spec if you kept it above a certain rpm

but it was driven to every track day it went too (not by me by my dad)

Rhys,
The way I use my cars (12k a year, 2 trips to the ring, 4-5 track days and serious abuse everywhere), then I would say my current engine (which has now started to use oil), would be safe to no more than 40,000 miles before needing a full top and tail (which it is getting for it's new owner).

Phil,
It gets used as can be seen by the mileage it racks up . But not for mundane things like work (unless the weather is particularly nice and I fancy taking the long way home ), the Freelander is used as the "hack", the Escort is for fun (12,000 miles a year of fun though, so LOTS of it ).

Dont use race fuel or gas ( Its connected & can use it to prove a point) on the road & have two settings 500bhp & 640bhp & the lack of Torque at 1.2bar means its always in High Boost. Geared to do 195ish it does that with ease on any reasonable straight. ( Ask some of the guys on here its driven hard most of the time). Mark rekons im a complete loony, I prefer to say im having fun.

stg1 felt a bit gutless IMO,and wasn't enough to see off most quick RST's,scoobies/evo's

best spec for me would be;

standard engine
ported head with standard cams
T34 (with any of the housings)
greys
spike of 2 bar

and the MOST IMPORTANT THING...........a standard clutch with standard cover ( the old style good ones, not the new crap ones that slip to fook!!)

drove my cossie into work today, with loads of traffic in the middle of Brum....honestly it was awful on the heavy clutch...my leg was so tired

current spec is awesome on the straight roads, but not as nice as a standard engine and head to drive on

(i'm rwd)330ish for everyday car ,400ish i never got bored with(fast but not silly)but with my new 500ish engine i think its getting to be too much for the road, great fun mind but i dont think i will be going for any more power.

phil i thought you said a while back that your car was a bit crazy for road use?

20ish PSI on a T3 4x4 cos,

loved it! reliable, not enough guts in 3rd to break much,(so felt like it ran out of puff a bit compaird to the same set up on T34.63 at top end of 3rd)
and just a nice compromise between lag and power IMO.

if i get another one, thats how i would have it i think!
Leave the huge power figures and times to people who
dont mind breaking things every couple of hundred miles!!

I mean, every one here has a cossie because its something they
Enjoy, right? but where is the enjoyment in breaking a gearbox/diff/driveshaft all the time!

a car quick enough to smile about, but not fragile is my idea of enjoyment!

i must admit that was the big prob i thought the saff you had was, when trace owned it i drove it loads and left her mine for various reasons.it was a nice car to drive but compared to mine with the t34 it did run out of puff toward the top of the revs/gears.and as we were doing loads of motorway miles it could get a bit annoying.but still a good all rounder
