James,
We should have got a draw, but good bowling from Shane Warne and poor batting from us saw to it that we didnt. i got up at 4am to watch and couldnt beleive that we only had just over 100 runs. We are no where near as bad as the fotty team yet Another 3 tests to play.If we loose them, then we MAY be compared to the footy team

english sport is just shit end of at the moment, im sorry but those cricketers should give their earnings to charity the same way the football team should have after the world cup in the summer and the same way the rugby will have to next year at the wrold cup.
flintoffs only the captain as its prob bringing the ecb a few quid in sponsorship. exactly the same as beckham being football captain. now im not saying their shit at what they do as both are world class, but there are better captains in both teams.
hopefully now their 2-0 down they might be able to pull it back so its a respectable scoreline but the ashes is now gone i feel.

Granted, we only have to get a draw to retain the Ashes, but it's very unlikely we'll hold onto them now.
That batting today was shocking. There's a very good reason why Flintoff shouldn't be captain.
When we're not taking wickets, everyone looks to Flintoff to take one. When the top order is short of runs, and Pietersen gets out, everyone looks to Flintoff to steady the batting performance. It's too much to do that, AND be captain.
Our batting is superb at times, and KP plays Warne better than any other batsman in the world...... but to win matches, you need to take 20 wickets. Our bowling attack is dire. An out of form Harmison, and no Simon Jones really shows....... and to not play Panesar in this test? Ridiculous. All well wanting to bat to eight like Australia do, but when you're 551 for 6 dec on a flat pitch, number eight batsmen don't matter much.
Very disappointing, considering we should have come away with the draw.

bad luck guys, you guys played well for the first few days. Together with some luck and some great performances by the bowlers, Ponting and Hussey we got a great result.
Gotta feel for poor Freddy

Shocking, shocking, shocking IMO. I wonder how many teams have scored 550 runs, declared after 5 sessions and then went on to lose the match.
There can't be too many.
I can't believe all this talk of putting Jones and Giles in to 'make the tail wag'. They need to pick the best players in each position. We have 6 batsmen who should get us the runs and you need to be able to take 20 wickets to win a match which we seem incapable of doing.
Rant over!!

As a batsmen Jones has been diabolical - for someone who is meant to be able to bat, hes poor.
Why not draft in Matt Prior??? He can bat, if we really need a wicket keeper who can bat.
by extending our batters, we're just showing a lack of faith in our top and middle order.
Giles is 110% useless! After that dropped catch from Ponting and his poor display with the ball (amusingly, hes had more luck batting!) we should try Panesar.
And the rest of our bowling "attack"! with the exception of Hoggard and Flintoff, we've been poor.
When will Duncan Fletcher grow a back bone??
