Default Orange Broadband - DONT USE IT !!! Its a CON

Well... what a fookin rip off.

An auld chap I know rang me to ask for help getting his Orange Broadband going.

So I goes over thinking it was going to be something daft like driver for the modem not installed or a windows component missing.

Spent 5 hours with the guy.

If you order their 'Starter Pack' which ISNT free its £14.99 a month.... you cant get telephone support on the 0870 number you have to ring their premium rate number at 50p a minute.

SO... after loads of head scratching and exhausting all the tests I could think off we bit the bullet and rang support....

Which is in......................... FOOKIN INDIA !!!

So I started speaking to some fella who's accept was so thick you could hardly understand him, he knew fook all about the problems and kept stalling by repeating everything I said to him and then when I asked him a direct question he cut me off, so I rang back, we go through the whole thing again, ask a direct question, put me on hold..... never came back, rang back again, call answered but no one there...

Gave up in the end.

Rang Customer Service, spoke to a nice english girl, complained about the shite support and she did apologise but was powerless... asked if there was any kind of secondline support in the UK.... told no there is one support number and that all calls are diverted to whichever one of the three call centres has operators available, only one of them is in the UK.

We got conned out of £10 or more in premium rate calls and are STILL no further forward.

Needless to say its going back tomorrow and he will be signing up with someone else.

SO..... a warning to all... if you are tempted by the cheap price... forget it, just walk on by to what may seem a slightly more expensive deal... but believe me it will be cheaper in the long run.

What was the problem ? Well... basically I narrowed it down to either username & password or the Broadband line wasnt there or was faulty.

With tiscali the now DONT go with them

1. Pish
2. Slow
3. Cuts off

Takes around 30mins to download a SINGLE bloody song After 11pm takes around 10mins to download a SINGLE song

Was with AOL people will say they are not good and crap but the 5 year i was with them i had no problem only reason i had changed as i was paying £30 a month so had changed to the 2.2meg tiscali package for £15 a month

Think al be going back with AOL or give pipex a try as i have heard so many good things about then

i had a similar problem lately... turned out to be my phone line! still... i rang orange and went through a load of tests with them and it ended up that they were going to get BT to do a line test. i rang back the next day and the test came up 'clear'... so i gave BT a shout myself who automatically told me that i had an earth fault on my line

complete waste of time calling them imo, they can only offer basic advice, most of which i had already tried to no avail.

NEILM - is the left hand light on the modem flashing or solid? i had a problem with my username when i first got broadband... didn't realise it had to have '@fs' at the end of it!

I have been without internet at home for 3 months now due to Orange Broadband, we were with them since it was Freeserve Plus... We tried to cancel with them and it all got buggered up

Hopefully tomorrow my new providor should be switched on finally

I can't moan about the Indian call centers though as it is our companies job to put them there

Only downside is that they are only open while about 10pm

Because it's far cheaper for the company to use an Indian call centre sadly.

And rather than being trained they just have a load of questions and answers on a sheet.

All because customers want to pay £12.99 a month and not £14.99

Snap... I too am on BT, it's not the cheapest, but i don't move it for all the reasons you just said - it's reliable, fast, and has UK call centres.

Two friends at work are on Sky - their connections are working fine, and they said customer services were helpful with the set up

BT phoned me last night and offered me 8meg for £17.99 pcm with free weekend and evening calls through another line with 6gb monthly useage or £22.99pcm for 8meg BT Home Hub, Norton antiviris and Firewall for a year 6gb monthly useage and the free weekend and evening calls. Or for £25.99 pcm for all with no monthy limit

Was thinking the cheapest option as I already have a wireless set up and don't download that much

The problem is, two green light (USB & ADSL) lights come up on the unit and then after couple of seconds go out, then the the USB light flashes red twice then the greens come on for a couple of seconds and then go out.

And this goes on and on.

Have got the @FS at the end of the username....... think it means FOOKSAKE

My girlfriends parents are going through exactly the same thing, they signed up to one of these deals where you get FREE calls for a fixed fee a month and Broadband.

They've got their Free Calls, which is handy as the 'sister-in-law' lives in Ireland so its saved them money already

BUT

Getting the broadband has been a fooking joke.

They just tell lies about when its going to be active, when its not going to be active etc etc etc

Cant believe its this difficult.

Hopefully they will loose enough customers that the go out of business

Ive been with Orange since they were wanadoo, the net never cuts out etc but the only time i have had problems it was the shitty livebox, always having trouble with that and having to reset the fucking thing, in the end i got pissed off and went back to using my ADSL modem and its been fine ever since, can stay connected for days if i wanted to

Customer service is ok if your a total nonce, if, however you have a fair bit of knowledge like myself then ringing them can get very tedious and frustrating as they tell you all the obvious things which you would have done already, and line tests take 24hrs which 10 times out of 10 they will do if you have any problems connectiong to the net, why cant you do it NOW
But yeah as long as i dont have to ring them then im very happy with service i get.

Hmmm thats not so bad. I'm currently with madasafish broadband and it has been FAULTLESS in 11 months! Deal was £11.99 for 6 months and then £17.99. I was thinking of changing but might not now. We get 7.9meg connection but limited to 5 gig d/load.

I'm with SKY Broadband, and had trouble connecting a while back, phoned tech support (not india) very helpful and knew what the fautl was instantly after I told him the problem. I'm on the free service but it currently costs £18 per month as the free ones not available n my area yet
