Keeping a dog couped up all day is just downright cruel, Phil, and that's what he would have to do, so surely it's best for the dog that he goes somewhere we he recieves the attention etc that a dog really needs, and doesn't just live a shitty life of being kept in a house all day??
I can't for the life of me see how anyone can not understand the poor bloke's situation and why he is doing this?!

...i apologise for my outburst.
...i guess i will never be in a situation where i have to do something like this...i can say my Missus would be out first
However it is interesting about being couped up though...many of our show friends have there dogs couped up all day everyday in outside kennels and yet i dont find it cruel...I have many mates who go out to work all day and leave there dog at home alone..i dont see how its cruel?Aslong as its in a safe enviorement it makes the dog more happy to see you when you get in...dogs are here to do as WE say....if they make you happy sort a way round it.
Once again i didnt mean to be nasty

I can honestly say that it is long time since I have seen anyone so upset as Ian when his dog was leaving. He obviously loves his dog as much as his children. He has had that dog from 6 weeks old and has obviously bonded with him, if you saw him with the dog you would understand.
I might add that I also feel very bad that I was unable to keep Clifford.
Everthing he is trying to do is for the welfare of Clifford. Circumstances change, no one can foresee the future so does that preclude keeping a dog in case something happens down the line which would effect the dog.
Leaving a dog on its own for long periods depends on the breed of the dog. For a working dog like a German Shepherd it is cruel as the dog will become bored and frustrated.
Ian was in a very difficult position and always had the dogs best interests a heart. If you only knew how many people just abandon their dogs in similar circumstances, in the best case taking it to the vets to be put down and in the worst case kicking it out of a moving car.
I also have told the missus that if it came to a choice between the dogs or her there would only be one winner

hi guys,
yes we're coming up to get clifford on saturday (is he thatcham approved?).
had been watching the thread for a while after long talks decided we wanted to help.
He's gonna be living at my partners where he should have plenty of space and attention from us and the boys!
Looking forward to saturday

Hi guys,
Sorry for not posting earlier but its been a mad weekend with trying to get ready for xmas as well as introducing clifford to his new home.
Well we've had him for a few days now and we are amazed how well he's settling in.
We introduced him on his lead as he was very hyperactive for a while getting used to everything but very quickly he's settled down and getting used to his new home and family.
It was hillarious introucing him to the boys as he is twice the size of them and although he just wants to play and lick them to death the boys get a bit jumpy - it was a great tool to keep the boys on good behaviour!
He's got used them now and he roams freely around the house off the lead, we only have to keep him back when people visit (including the gas man yesterday
) - hes very good with not touching things he shouldnt be (but he trys his luck occasionally.
He's had his mad moments though and I think they've been down to where he's had to be tied up for long periods when people have been over etc or when the kids have been winding him up. He definately needs his walks! In the evening he just lays with us in the front room and is no real trouble at all.
Walking him however is a complete nightmare! He is facinated and has to investigate absoulte everything, and hes definately a car chaser (especially vans!) hes such a strong dog its very difficult to keep him restrained but with some training we think he'll soon adjust. My partner took him out today and managed to keep him from pulling her all over the place like he does me!![Rolling Eyes](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
Will get some pics soon once hes more settled in (and we got a bit more spare time! - everything is manic at the moment!)
