Default £250 later and she is out of the ditch!!!

On a quiet Monday night with only savings in the bank (no beer money) I thought i'd go for a little drive with my mate. In fact I let him drive (fundamental error) in a car park cos he is learning. No other cars about so nice and safe!

He does a couple of figure of 8's and then pulls up in a parking space, slips on the clutch and stalls it and it jumped forward (at least I think thats what happened it all happened so fast) grinds across a kurb and comes to rest at an angle with the back wheels touching the kurb and the front end in shedloads of mud. The sills under the door were sitting on the kurb so couldn't push it out plus the front was covered in tree branches.

Understandably I was a bit annoyed and after lots of swearing, door slamming, tyre kicking, a rope, and a ford transit 260 this car was going nowhere.

Finally at about 11:00pm I gave in and called recovery company who managed to get it out with a winch (could not get big truck in (hiab?) as 2m height restriction) so had to drag it over the kurb.

Luckily I have only scrapped the exhaust, bent the sills and completely trashed the CAT cover!!

Moral of the story, dont let your mates drive your car!

I had to pay out of my savings but he says I should pay half for letting him drive it but I cant afford to and its not really my fault.

You let an unliscened driver loose on you car mate. Only person at fault here is you I'm afraid. Should never have let him behind the wheel.

Count yourself lucky friend of my brother let his missus drive his Nova GTE and she got scared reversing so stamped on the throttle putting the car over a concrete bollard and into a ditch. Car was written off.

i had a shot of my mates new (to him) mk3 fiesta popular he had it a week & he gave me a shot down a back road (i was 15) while he was in the back with his chick.
so there i was thinking im cool when my other mate went past on his scooter so i raced him down the country roads (i thaught i was a good driver at 15)

any way my mate on the scooter pulled in to my other mates farm..
i was going about 50mph & pulled on the handbrak & went sideways right into a strainer post & written the car off big time with a casualty

but i never got done for it as he said a dear jumped out in front of him (it was broad day light) so there was no prosacutions
i went off cars for a while after that..

but the wost bit was it was the local coppers daughter

so i never drove till i past my test & i would never give my car to any mates that dont have a license & insurance

You were a good enough mate to let him have a drive even though he hasnt got a licence, he should be a good enough mate to pay for the damage and all expense. Simple.

Yeah, its all becoming clear now, I gone screwed up.

Thing is im the sensible one out of my mates, just easily manipulated...........

Never again!

He agreed to pay £200 in total which means I pay £50 (plus I will drop the £20 he owes me anyway) and I pay to fix the CAT cover. Anyone have any idea how much they cost by the way?
