Default XBOX 360 thru VGA and another question!

...anyone else using it that way?...I am going thru a 21inch LCD dvi-d tv/moniter...Trouble is it gives HD but dont look at good as thru componant ...Got a few settings to try yet though.....Apparently its the only method of connection that allows 1080P (assuming your moniter can do it!)

Another thing is XBOX live is it free as i now have a wireless connection so thought i could update my unit?

FUCK Playstation 3 owners

Phil,

I set mine up yesterday on my LCD, couldnt work out if mine had HD either!

But all the connectors match up, so switched it to HD on the connector........... All seemed fine.

But when i upp'd it to 1080P the picture turned shit!

Suppose that means my newly purchased LCD aint! oops!

The only way to view XBOX 360 is via Hi Def its turns the console in to another league if your used to normal viewing1...My mate said to me when he got it its no better than the old xbox....then i showed him it on a 50inch HDTV running 1080i

I'm running my xbox360 thru the VGA connection to a Panasonic 42PW6 which isn't HD ready but it looks miles better and as good as some of the HD ready TV's i've seen.

When I get a mo, i'll try the VGA connection thru the 50" LG plasma and see what the quality is like.

Anyway, isn't 720p supposed to be a better in HDTV than 1080i?

Mines though VGA and my widescreen PC monitor and it looks OK, Also its pointless setting your 360 to 1080p for 2 reason's :

1. Its not real 1080p, 360 just takes a 720p signal and "scales" it to 1080p. PS3 is the ONLY system that renders game at REAL 1080p.

2. If your Display has'nt got a resolution of 1920x1080p, then its pointless useing 1080p as your TV is'nt a 1080p capable TV.

Resolution is 1280x768 = 720p HD capable

Just use the component video lead that thwe 360 came with ( thats the lead with the red, blue and green connectors ) plug into the corrosponding conectors on the back of your TV and your away.

NOTE : On the 360 video lead theres a switch, make sure the switch is set to "HD" and dont forget to change the system settings to "720p"

Im using vga on my lg 50" HD plasma

The colours do look a little washed out on the dashboard compared to component but once you get into the games vga comes into its own. more natural colours and less 'tearing' that component is liable to.

Also, vga will upscale your normal standard definition DVD's through the 360, component wont.

And yes, you will only get 1080p through vga but this will only work on a 1080p set, very expensive and very little of em out yet. 1080p is also any use on screens above above 42". Anything else and it wont be noticeable to the likes of us.

Finally, its down to personal preference but the general consesous is that 1080i is better that 720p but it is really is down to what the source material is broadcast in and the capability of individual sets to process 1080i (interlacing). Most of the sky hd/bbbc hd material is broadcast in 1080i.

hope this helps chaps

Surely the lead which comes with it (360) doesnt need upgrading!

Franco, if you have bought the premium 360 pack (£279) edition then it comes for a cable suitable for up to 1080p through component.

The monitor in your link only supports 720p as this is 1280 x 768, 1080p is 1920 x 1080 and most LCD that do this screen res are usually over 40" inch as there is no requirement for 1080p on a 20-30" Monitor

I did a comparison test too...VGA HD vs Componant HD

On the XBox menu system VGA dont looks as clear colours look washed out BUT in game it is clearly more detailed and quite a bit better than componant...i think if it come down to it for close up playing a game VGA connection but on sitting back cause of large TV,componant.

Dojj....the XBox only comes with a componant connection in premium pack switchable between normal and HD..aslong as your TV is HD ready then it will give true HD.....however some like me now use on a LCD moniter which of course being a PC moniter too can do the HD resolution...to use XBox you use the VGA input and this again gives tru HD.

Also if you want to use a PC monitor you need one with a native resolution which is the same as the XBOX's HD res. Otherwise it looks washed out

Xbox HD res ?

The 360 does not have a set resolution ?

Up to 8 resolutions can be used via VGA which will cover just about all pc montors

True but most new monitors now native res is above the higest res the xbox can muster.

ok, this has desended into a bunch of gibberish to the uninitiated (and me)

shoul di wait for the ps3 to turn up with it's "true" hd stuff?

do i fork out for a 360 and fiddle with the wires in the back to see if they work the way it should work as you have all described?

do i bother with sky hd?

there seem to be different standards for different screen sizes and uses and, even though you all rave about hd gaming, is it worth the hassle once all the hassle has been done with the wiring?

thank you

true hd

im 100% sure your tv will have component connections so you can use the component cable that comes with the 360. This is true HD.

Were just arguing about vga connections which is another method.

The PS3 is looking like a good system but a lot of reports are suggesting despite the higher spec they hae quoted it is actuall not anymore powerfull. The developers for the ps3 have been struggling big time. The 360 is a lot more user freindly has loads more titles available and if your planning on going online you cant touch xbox live

The ps3 is expensive but then you have the advantage of a blue-ray player. However im convinced HD DVD will win the war. A cheap HD DVD add on is available for the 360 as of friday.

Im singing the 360's praises but will probably buy a PS3 to have a look anyway

Theres a few 360 games that are'nt even rendered at normal HD

PS3 :

And heres the SAME track and car on the x-box 360

The PS3 version just looks ALOT smoother and more natural.
