Default blow off valve not working ??? :(

hi just a question regarding turbo boost, this being my first car with a turbo im not really up to scratch on turbo motors, i know some people hate dump valves but you either luv em or hate em i suppose.

quick question is my escort turbo i origanally had a bailey dv 26 dump valve on the car when i bought it,, it was connected the side of the rs turbo charge carryer, i when i got over 2000 revs i could hear the t3 turbo spool up and then slight chatter noise but the dump valve dident work? no sound whatsoever ?

so i thought faulty dump valve so i went out and bought a Bov, fitted it and same problem its not giving anythink out what so ever even on softest setting ???

anyone have any ideas why it dont seem to be working ???

i know the turbos fine as it spools up after 2000 rpm and i can hear it chatter slightly?

anyone please advize, heres a pic connected to charge carryer

anyone any ideas?

i have even tryed moving the vacume pipe to the back of the inlet manifold now but still it wont work ?

the piston on the blow off valve dont attempt to move even revving the car ?

im puzzled as it never worked either when i had my bailey dump vlave, so i thought maybe it was faulty so i bought this one and still the same so im stumped why its not working ??

any have any ideas please.

if you have tried 2, and they have both been connected to the crossover pipe and inlet manifold..........the ONLY reason they would not work, is you not having enough boost pressure to open the valve after the throttle is shut

hmm just a update on this,

i removed the pipe that goes from actuator to t3 compresor houseing so more boost, i set it in megatune for 5 psi over boost to be safe. still dont work.

i noticed there was a hole at back on inlet which i blocked up few months back which was leaking tiny bit.

i blocked the hole so it wasent leaking, somethinks wrong, as i even removed the spring out the bov completly, and put the top on the bov, and the piston still wont move??

i can move the piston freely it i use my finger so , there seems to be enough pressure?

strange indeed.

i have now fitted a proper bailey t-piece,

seems it still wont move the bov piston?

im not sure how much shes set up for boost as im waiting for a gauge to arrive,

i took bov off t-piece and noticed when i rev the car theres not that much pressure comming out as i can keep my hand over t-piece hole? just dont seem enough pressure to push the bovs spring up to open?

i thought i shouldent be able to keep my hand over it i though there should be high pressure ?

anyone please help.

does the external piston not move?

it shoud open / close at minor throttle opening withvacuum.

is the pipe "sucking" at idle? ie have you got a good vacuum signal?

hi jim,

not quite sure what you mean by external piston.

but the bov piston wont move at all mate even on idle?

ive got a good vacume as i tested it and if i put the vacume pipe when engines running on back of my hand it stops on there so its a good suction mate.

its got me stumpted really, asi checked all pipes etc.

the bov should work as ive seen a video on google video with a guy with a golf gti with one fitted and it works perfect even when he just revs the car, so should work on my 2.0 turbo ??

Is it one of them RS turbo (escort) dump valves?

if so would it work on an EFI set up? as they are different aint they?
(twin piston or something)

block the holes up completely mate, and have the chatter. lol

no its not a rs turbo dump valve mate,
well the chatter i get you can bearly hear it thats why i want somethink a bit louder.

as said in previous thread a video on google video shows a guy with one on his golf gti and working ok so should def work on my efi zetec turbo on megasquirt mangament.

its a single piston bov.

if it's not lifting the piston at idle then either 1) you havent connected the vacuum feed right 2) it's seized

let the engine runa dn pull the pipe off the top and put your finger over it... is it "sucking"? if not the problem is the vacuum feed.

if it is, then your DV is seized. (or you have a really strong spring in there and are running pissy low boost)

also to check, are you testing this whilst driving, or revving the throttle at idle? you need to get the engine under load to make boost properly

vacuum is ok let the engine run then i pulled the pipe off the top and put my finger over it and its sucking ok.

DV dont seem to be seized as i can just move it slighty up if i press it hard underneith,

i tested it when revving the throttle at idle, however i have laos been out on the road with it and it refuses to work ?

heres my t-piece and also bov
