Hi Guys,

My work laptop seems to have a cutdown version of MEdia Player on it....

It only shows the minimum mode and you cannot change it to full mode.

I've tried upgrading to vers 11 but thats not improved anything!

SOmthing else I have noticed is they have lock out the CD rom writer - could this all be related?

Is there anything else I can try...

thanks!!

Alex

Sounds to me like they have group policies applied so you can't break anything or frig about with it

They'll be taking your ability to right-click off of you soon!

There's also some addon pack for WMP that allows admins to restrict all sorts of stuff with media player across a network

Users are so much easier to tolerate since the invention of group policy

The only real option is to appeal to the sensibilities of the IT department chap.

If they suffer from usual 'God Complex' think of a business case for it (be imaginative!) and put it to their/ your boss!

All else fails, remind your boss that the IT department is there to make your life easier, and not the other way around. Be warned that this usually ends with a total ban on every single website you have ever visited, and computers reverted to a typrewriter format!!!

Its a works machine, why are you trying to get round it. Try installing something like Winamp or another media player app. It if says no, then your stuffed, IT have locked it down pretty good and they only way round it would be to get friendly with one of the IT guys for the admin password or raise a business case why you need access to certain things.

Working in IT, I do this all the time, we aren't trying to be difficult, we're trying to lower the number of calls we get from users doing stupid shit because they had full access to a laptop that they can break with the piece of mind IT would fix it.

Cheers

Matt
