Default Bank Charges

Firstly,i know there is a thread about reclaiming bank charges.....but it's 19 pages long and reading it may only confuse me more

Situation is this;

i have 3 accounts with the Abbey in my name, a current account, an E-saver and an easy ISA.......

i have money in the E-saver and money in the easy ISA (a decent sum of money)

my current account is usually in the overdraft, stupid i know but i just kinda got used to it being in there....

Anyhoo....i knew roughly how much was in the account and was expecting a payment of around 200quid anyway this week, but i look at my balance today and i see there's 3 seperate charges for being over my overdraft, clearing direct debit whilst overdrawn and clearing a VISA payment whilst overdrawn.

these 3 charges total £80 fucking quid!!!!

now i know that i'm in the wrong for not looking at my account properly,i should have made sure there was enough in my current account to cover any payments i make, but these charges are frankly extortionate....

i'm fuming now (a little bit with myself, but also with the bank)

what can i do to recover the charges? i just rang them and was transferred to who i thought would be some help, just turned out to be some foreign muppet who i could barely understand reading scripted replies to me

what should i write to them saying?, i want every penny back that they have overcharged me, (i fully accept that i should be charged for going overdrawn etc,but not this amount )

help please

Skip 19 pages and go to www.consumeractiongroup.com.

Go to the FAQs in the bank charges area (you'll need to join first, it's free) and then send your letters away...

FOr that amount, dont bother writing to then just yet. Go in to your local branch and speak to the manager. Explain the situation to him, and ask him if they would refund them. If he refuses, threaten to leave. They dont want to lose a good customer who keeps a substantial amount in his accounts.

It takes them 7 new customers to make the same money that they make from one existing customer. Most managers will refund it no probs.

i did try calling, but was met with a response of it's my fault i should keep my accounts better......which i do agree with.

But to charge me that much is just ridiculous, especially 3 seperate charges on the same day!

i will try the branch manager, and maybe threaten to leave, although to be honest i do like Abbey

Cola/Daveyboy i'll have a read now,thanks
