The recommended average time to spend on an MOT is 45 minutes.

Garages set their own prices and retest terms to a certain degree.

£50 might be too much for some people. We may start seeing an increase of unmot'd cars on the road if it goes up too much.

its the recomended price, and what alot of people will have to pay

IMO its too much, and i work in the motor industry, so it wont actully affect me

the recomended price has gone up because delaers have moaned they dont make enough money out of them because of the amount of time it takes to carry out the test

IMO thats wrong, and shouldnt passed on the the customer

it seems ok, for whats really 45 mins to an hours work

if the test is done thoroughly.

wont affect me

cos a: my car passed on tuesday

and b: my mot costs me £40 cos i'm friendly with the guy at the testing station

doesnt seem too bad. its only 50 quid to keep your car on the road for another year

Assuming the car is road worthy enough to pass an MOT (even though if it passes an MOT, it doesn't actually mean the car is road worthy!!! )

To be honest, MOTing cars is one of the most boring jobs going in the motor trade and I'd want a fortune to do it...

You boys are ripped off, £50 for an MOT by a garage that will sell you a service to rectify any faults they find..... Im sure loads of honest decent garages out there We have the same full computerised testing as you only its done with a dedicated MOT centre. They do not sell any other services at all, a restest costs £18 with the full MOT costing £30 which means they will not make any money out of your car on parts and labour.

Doesn't seem too bad really.. GF's dad is an MOT tester and think with the time it takes and the system not allowing you to book an extra text within the same hour has made the price increases possible

No point us worrying about people
if the Gov decided they were gonna be £100 we got to pay it
were shafted eitherway

The MOT price went up 14%, the cost to the garage went up 21%

that makes a load of sence.

now VOSA say they time an MOT at 58 minutes(must stop for tea break or something...)

you 'should' have two guys doing it, so that's two guys for 2 hours labour for £50....

there is no money in MOT's, there are garages thet fail cars on brakes etc =as they are easy to fix and offer a good return, but they get bad names for ripping customers off.

as I understand BMW now have stopped offering MOT's as they charge £108+vat / hour near here and they loose money on thier mechanics.

BMW now take the car round the corner, charge the customer £44.15 + £108(+vat) for going on thier behalf.

I allow 45 minutes, but I see relativly new/serviced cars, the longest I took was 1 hour 20 mins. I used to do 12 - 18 a day, now I'm at 11 wiith no room for lunch, a 50 hour week is common, and people still moan they can't get one same day.

I think they are cheap compared to having work done.

how much are plumbers/plasterers/service techs/dentists etc on per hour??
