Default VW GOLF mk4 1.6S loosing water... Help????

Ok i know its not a Ford but i know a lot of VW/Seat technicians use this forum. So thought some of you may be able to help.

For some reason the car seems to lose a small amount of water. It needs filling up about once month or so as is just below minimum by now. so we fill it up and still seems to do the same.

Ive had a little look around the engine and also parked over a peice of cardboard for a few hours after a long run, but nothin seems to be leaking. And no drips on the cardboard.

Can anybody suggest anything as this is annoying but apart from that the car is running A ok.

Thanks in advance

We have a Mk4 Diesel golf and it does the same. Only a couple of months ago it spat all its water and the water pump died Since we had it replaced it STILL seems to use a little water but fuck knows where to because i cant find a leak either!

Apparently the water pump is a common problem on the Mk4 so yours could be on the way out.

There was a very helpful man on here that spoke to me about our problem but i cant remember his username

Is it losing water under pressure?
When the engines running did you try the cardboard underneath?
Is it smoking at all?

Possibles

Rad
Water Pump
Header tank cap
Headgasket

Or possibly, but unlikely Heater Matrix or an airlock in the system.
