Default Search engines - Nitrous Advice Forum site i run

I admin a forum for a nitrous company (wizards of nos) and recently was given the task of trying to get the major uk search engines to find the forum.

The words i was to get results listed for were the phrase "Nitrous Advice Forum"

I registered a new URL for the forum so that it was on the net in its own right, rather than just as a subsite to the main website for his company, and i made all those words part of the URL.

This was two weeks ago, and ive just tried today to see where the results were coming out to see if i had made the front page on any search engine yet.

The results?

Yahoo.co.uk
1) The forum
2) A post of mine on passionford
3) A post of mine on passionford

Yahoo.com
1) The forum
4) A post of mine on passionford

Google.co.uk
1) The forum

Google.com
1) The forum

Thats really awesome that is, im SO pleased, i cant believe that in less than a fortnight we've just hit the main 4 search URLs that people in the UK used in number 1 spot on every one!

But it just goes to show how represented passionford must be in the search engines and what a good job pet is doing that searching for something like "nitrous advice forum" ends up with a first page search result on yahoo.co.uk and yahoo.com!

Pet and all other admin are indeed doing a top job

Chip: was that done using meta-tags on front page ??
If not using front-page for the web design, how did you do it?
Looking into sorting this for an upcoming site which doesn't use front-page and not sure how to do it.

Its not using front page.

Its a PHP forum, with some modifications you can download to help it optimise searching and with some modifications ive made myself to do the same.

It uses meta tags, but TBH they score lowly, its more about getting the right words in the right place.

I know it would do well, but never expected it to do well *THAT* quickly!

As i mentioned above mate, just a case of optimising it for the words you want to appear for.

So have them in:
the URL
the page titles
the meta tags
the text

nothing rocket science about it

Ok..got it. I tried doing the search and re-read your post.
Cheers

Is there any other way of doing it on forums already in place without creating url changes?
For example: I just put ford forum into google and PF isn't in the 1st 10 pages and this is a big site with high web stats
How can you make a small non-brand specific forum a good search possibility?

Loads of different tricks you can do mate, one is to rename the "viewtopic.php" to be "ford-forum.php" for example, which will help, so would adding the term "ford forum" to the page title, which this page doesnt have for example, then getting those words onto the page is also key of course.

Or better still use some url rewriting, i.e:

https://passionford.com/forum/Genera...site_i_run.htm

Thats exactly what i do on the forum anyway mate

e.g:
http://www.forum.nitrous-advice.com/...pic-t2428.html

Thats for everything in general though, not for speicfically targetting a couple of key words.
