Default Making a YB rev

Whats required to take a healthy but standard yb to 7.5k, 8k or 8.5k rpm (management and turbo aside)

Cheers

Press the right pedal usually makes it rev to 8k

A decent amount of ignition advance dialled back in after peak torque usually helps.

8500RPM is abit much for a YB std (destroying engine)....8300rpm is borderline..i have 8200rpm limit using isky valve springs.

The standard lifters will pump all their oil out and the springs go coil bound if held above 8000rpm for even a short period of time .

My new engine (and the one on the T66 thread), which will rev to 8500, will be on solid lifters and Cosworth DFV (old F1 spec) valve springs .

Fuck revving one to that. No need really in turbo form, even at well over 500bhp.

And to make it give useful power that high up at well under 500bhp would mean losing you out loads of low down power, so the powerband size dont change really, making it totally pointless

Thats a predicated figure at 2.5 bar, but he has only run it at 1.7 bar so far.

Mike, Rods held quite a few seconds over 8000rpm on standard lifters, as it hit the 8300 limiter (210mph) when he was doing a run and was then held at nearly 8200 till he got to the line (206mph)

They don't sound very nice afterwards and it usually takes a few minutes for them to refill with oil . I am personally going for solid lifters, to make it safe.

Steve,
I'm hoping to fill in what I expect to loose response wise with having to run these cams, with the Mountune roller-barrel inlet, and if necessary, 3.9 gearing to sharpen it up further. That way, I "hope" to get thebest of both worlds (obviously the slight increase in capacity will help) .

Thats a predicated figure at 2.5 bar, but he has only run it at 1.7 bar so far.
So what is to say somthing won't break at 2 bar, his mapping is will allow 600bhp at 2.5 bar, his cooling/airflow is capable of 600bhp at 2.5 bar?

What did it make at 1.7 bar?

Boschman, I think you change your sig to "a predicted / guessed 600bhp saff"

I dont like the thought of them over 8K myself either, ive gone for solids for my engine (LET not YB but extremely similar) was just saying its not quite as dramatic a sudden death as some people may have read your post as meaning.

Garage19......its a MAD built engine for that BHP and all cooling etc is taken care of..it will run 2.5 bar no probs...although i may not go that high..probably stick at 2bar.

My sig is exactly what it would be at 2.5bar...regardless of wether it will break...its all there its wether i am man enuff to run it at that!

No different from saying i got 700bhp DYNO figure..incar you aint..same as rolling road figures..my ASS dyno tells me what power..remember i am part NMS aswell

No you cant

It wont be standard bottom end if it has:

S rods (and isnt an S)
A centre mains strap
A balanced crank
A hotter cam (well its in the bottom end, LOL)

So you are not even going to run it at 2.5 bar??? how can it be a 600 bhp engine then.

@ 2.5bar regardless of wheter it will break??

That means i can say the stock 2ltr zetec i have in the corner of my shed is a 400 bhp engine because i'm sure it would make that if i rammed 2.5bar down its neck..... regardless of if it will break

So what did your engine make at 1.7 bar? Why don't you stick that figure in your sig until proven your figures!

...the diffrence is mine is built to take it and everything is in place..its only a turn of my boost controller away

As for my sig..its my sig and i can say what i like..i may put it to 700bhp with race fuel.

Phil,
Lets say for arguement's sake that you DO make 600bhp, I still think Peggy would waste you in the current format, as you have done NOTHING to ensure traction .

..... and change your name to billy bullshit!

Can't stand people who make up their bhp figures without ever testing them. Maybe you should go and work for TVR!
