£50 an hour at Jennings Ford in Middlesbrough I think. I know the Subaru dealership is that so assume the Ford one is the same as its the same company.

Cheers

All the techs i place into work are on a scale

level 1 techs - 7-8 ph
level 2 8-9
level 9-10

and Full diagnostic techs get £12ph max

so just shows how much they add on top doesnt it!!!!!!!

Suppose know what your saying DOO.

I cant complain to much, drive the cars then you have to pay to run them properly. Was nice being able to have Latte and Jam Donught in the dealer though while i waited for the car to be serviced.

My BMW dealer is £130 per hour

The ford dealers i used to work at are £70 per hour.

I would say the techs at the ford dealers worked MUCH harder for their money than the BMW bunch!

As for BMW tech's being 'properly trained' errrr i wouldn't be so sure!

Actually I would!

BMW have just spent 17.5 million pounds on a new purpose built UK training centre staffed by BMW employee/consultants.

Ford choose to subcontract their training to other organisations.

Was only in jest
... i've worked for both, it's just my opinion that the boys i worked with at Ford were a credit to themselves. But every dealer is different.

my dealership ( closest to the city might i add !!!!) charges 95 per hour plus vat

the techs are not even close to well trained and fords are alot harder to work on

when i worked at volvo there techs had the EASIEST job as EVERYTHING on a volvo is found via there computer,,,,,,,, they just plug it in and there ya go

fords is trying to be like that but the pac's system aint as good

also everything on a volvo is a module, you ALWAYS have to buy software upgrades for everything,,,,, to turn off the day time running lights is 14 quid plus labour time

to change the window switches you have to buy software to program

THE FUCKING REAR VIEW MIRROR HAS SOFTWARE REQUIRED FOR WHEN THATS CHANGED TOO !!!!!

the techs at my place are really just fitters with 2 master techs who tbh are just arogant people who think they know everything,,,,,, but they just know what there told

the parts master tech at my place is the fucking NUTS, he remembers EVERYTHING and the techs ASK HIM when they cant sort a problem,,,, but hes been in the game for 20 years maybe more as i aint gota clue his age

hes also the most humble person alive who NEVER stops working,,,, hes not a quick worker but he just plods along and gets the job done THEN goes home

hence why he also closes up as he can work till 8pm doing stuff

I was speaking to a guy the other day at work and he was telling me that the new Mercs have to be plugged into a computer to replace the brake pads...... You cannot simply wind back or push back the caliper pistons the computer "sucks" them back

would prob be cheeper to buy new brake calipers then i guess

steve you know that firms like yours and breakers are costing them LOADS of cash so are now thinking of ways to battle them !!!!

even worse now that you no longer have to use genuine parts for warrantys to be upheld

what a boring job to have

walk up to car, ripp out coms lead, start up pacs module, plug in lead to pacs and check for faults

NO FAULTS PRESENT

turn off service light

shut down computer,,, change the oil, remove a grand from rhys locked and hardley used wallet,,,,, even has squeek that new leather wallets have

unlike pluging in the pacs into a ford focus and then spending the next 45 mins writing fault codes and changine sensors ect THEN call the customer to say either the parts aint in stock and are on back order OR the parts are no longer available

OR THE MOST COMON ONE,,,,, weve fixed the car mate,,,,, heres the bill for a grand,,,,,,, see ya next week for the same problem again where we will then try to find the problem untill its finally sold on to another customer

ahhhhh the joys of the germans

The other interesting fact about the KEY FOB is that it has NO BATTERIES.

It,s charged every time you put the key in the ignition.

same as the new audi a6.electronic handbrake.you need to plug it into the diag machine and tell it u want to change the rear pads, only then will it let u wind the caliper pistons back!

And?

You can have the swishest building and all the equipment and a model of every car. But the training and the faults they put into cars to test people, are NEVER like the ones actual customers get. Customers and Technicians know these cars as they see every fault. Ivory towered training facilities, and Instructors who spend all day reminicing (sp?) and telling stories inbetween dragging out a day long course to 3 days dont compare to the "real world"

that is soooo true,,,, but its NOT just bmw who do that ha ha ha ha

alex ill NEVER defend ford,,,, as not only are they behind the times they are building the new cars out of old jag/volvo/mazda parts

just like the jag is the old aston ect

ask any proper old school volvo customer what they think of the new range and they will say the interior is nicer but the cars total wank

theres a good reason ford is loosing money,,, its cause they aint giving the customer what they want, they thought they could never loose and now they are loosing and proper struggling to get back in the game

not too mention they just rip there customers off with the price of parts going up each year on old models YET the new stuff like focus ST brake discs are 25 quid each NEW !!!!

The keys are cool in the newish beemers. I know it saves your settings and everything, like how you have your seat and your mirrors etc. It's a god send for those that have another driver use their car now and then like my bro in law with my sis, but I didn't know it held service history info on it!

mark think the difference with main dealers is the up todate info for new cars ect, the 30k worth of machinery and the fact i get paied alot of cash for doing fuck all work

oh and my salary package is also profit based for my bonus system

paying 95 quid for a 10k car jey to be coded is little money

no fooker would EVER PAY 95 QUID A HOUR FOR A 20 HOUR WORK ON THE CAR,,,,,, not to mention on a car thats worth 3k

this is for the sbc fly by wire brake system. we've been told if you dont de-activate/de-pressurise the system the piston in the caliper can shoot out with a mega force behind it, god help is if a finger is in the way. the pressure at the bleed nipple is around 100bar when bleeding, although it doesnt feel like it. it is possible however to change pads without de-activating it just lock the car with all windows up and bonnet shut but its a risk so the system is in sleep mode so to speak then.

obviously work for mercs, our charge is £115+vat or £92+vat for cars 3 years or older.

No not at all a level 1 tech has to have all them qualifications before he can even work on a car alone, then the more skills you get the higher you go. ie level 1s do PDIs (pre delivery inspecptions) and that is using a bloody tick sheet and then you work your way up to eventually a diagnostic tech or as some people here have said master tech level which is were the money is.

Also not sure if some people know
You HAVE TO BE AUDI LICENSED before you can even undo a screw on an Audi....each car has its own license too
