FAQ Gearbox peeps - Final drive
Anyone know who would knock up a final drive for the MTX75? I know quaife do them, but they are probably silly price. Anyone know what the diesel escort MTX75 final drive is??
My reasoning -
Standard RS 2000 -
Engine speeds in top gear:-
30 MPH = 1412 RPM 40 MPH = 1883 RPM 50 MPH = 2354 RPM 60 MPH = 2825 RPM
70 MPH = 3296 RPM 80 MPH = 3767 RPM 90 MPH = 4237 RPM 100 MPH = 4708 RPM
Top Speed in 1 gear = 36.330 MPH
And changes into 2 gear at 4286 RPM dropping 2214 RPM
Top Speed in 2 gear = 55.092 MPH
And changes into 3 gear at 4516 RPM dropping 1984 RPM
Top Speed in 3 gear = 79.288 MPH
And changes into 4 gear at 4875 RPM dropping 1625 RPM
Top Speed in 4 gear = 105.718 MPH
And changes into 5 gear at 4977 RPM dropping 1523 RPM
Top Speed in 5 gear = 138.055 MPH
4.3 final drive -
Engine speeds in top gear:-
30 MPH = 1590 RPM 40 MPH = 2120 RPM 50 MPH = 2650 RPM 60 MPH = 3180 RPM
70 MPH = 3710 RPM 80 MPH = 4240 RPM 90 MPH = 4770 RPM 100 MPH = 5300 RPM
Top Speed in 1 gear = 32.275 MPH
And changes into 2 gear at 4286 RPM dropping 2214 RPM
Top Speed in 2 gear = 48.942 MPH
And changes into 3 gear at 4516 RPM dropping 1984 RPM
Top Speed in 3 gear = 70.437 MPH
And changes into 4 gear at 4875 RPM dropping 1625 RPM
Top Speed in 4 gear = 93.917 MPH
And changes into 5 gear at 4977 RPM dropping 1523 RPM
Top Speed in 5 gear = 122.644 MPH

I've looked into this with the iB5 gearbox.
Where did you get this 4.3 ratio from? The iB5 has a selection from 3.82 to 4.27 fitted in different standard cars, but I only know of the 3.82 being available for the MTX75?
I went to my local Ford dealer, and you can't buy the item new, as it wouldn't be an economical repair. We keyed in a couple of registration plates into their system, hoping one would have a 4.27 FD ratio, so you could then track down an identical engine spec car in a scrapyard and have the box out of it. Tried numerous but all came up 3.82.
Quaife FDs can only be used in conjunction with a Quaife gearkit. They have developed some which can be used with a standard gearkit, but they're £475+VAT.
Sorry I can't really help, but that's what I've looked into. My solution is that I'll just go for the Quaife gear kit which has a selection of FD ratios.... but ouch @ price.
