Default Vectra TD....HELP!!!!

My brother bought a vauxhall vectra TD last night,it's a P reg.....

anyhooo......it has a slight problem

when it runs,it runs absolutely spot on,but it has an intermittent fault,it cuts out or won't start at all..

We took the pipes off the fuel filter at the back of the engine bay and turned the key,and no fuel pumped through

any experts know of common problems or what to check

thanks peeps

Does it even have an electrical lift pump?

As far as I was aware, the injector pump sucked the fuel up itself.

Injector spill pipes are quite common at giving bother, when they wear they dry up and crack causing the car to draw air, changed a few of them at work but in saying that it was usually connected to a fault with the car not starting first thing in the morning or after being left for a while. Easy job to do and worth doing just to eliminate that in case it is that that is causing the problem.

when i say pump i mean the fuel pump under the bonnet.

All depends what engine it is really. 1.7 or 2.0

That's what I mean. If you remove the pipes off the filter and crank it over (as per the original posters first post) you will never see fuel come out as the pump will be sucking air in rather than the fuel as he has broken into the fuel circuit.

there is two possible causes on air in the fuel system
fuel injector leak off pipes split or cracked
or if the fuel in the filter is black there is oil getting in via injector bridge seals these are located below the camsaft and fairly involved to change
i hope this is some help

the X20dtl and Y20DTL / H engines do not have a pump in the tank, the fuel is sucked up by the injection pump, leak off pipes are a every day problem and will cause hard / non starting problems when left to stand.
however this will not cause cutting out when the engine is running, have you had the EML / SVS lamp come on ????
there is updated ECU soft wear also available for this engine and air flow meters do cause some problems..
take it to your local dealer and they can tech test it for you and let you know if there is a update on your software or if the ECU has logged a fault( not all faults will put the lamp on )
you should not be paying more than half an hour labour for this ( £35-£45)
best of luck

Is it a vectra Di ?

These have a problem with the ecu on top of the pump. Oil leaks from the rocker cover onto the ecu and basically fucks it up. £1000+ for a new one, they can't be repaired

hi, some vectras suffered with pump problems, but by far the most commonest fault for starting issues were the injector nozzle seals which are situated under the camshaft and requires cam cover off ,camshaft bearing cap removal and the seals can be done without removal of the camshaft as vauxhall recommend.
this is where i would start by removing leak off pipe from return line and using a midi vac i would check for bubbles in the oil where camshaft is situated around nozzles.
hopefully this might help always check the basics and even a proper check with tech 2 at a dealer should help.
cheers
