Best way for going to uni...
Since ive been out of work for a while now and now will employ me Im thinking of going back to college or even trying uni out, to do a course in mechanical engineering
What would be the best way to go about applying .........
And how hard would it be to get goverment funding or sponsorship from a company

Oh about apply go ask your local uni. You wont be able to start until Sept Next year though, as you have missed the boat for this year.

think you may struggle to get any sort of funding or sponsorship
i did my degree in mechanical/automotive engineering and it was a very interesting course. i started at loughborough and transfered to do automtoive at hertfordshire, in my second year
engineering can be tricky though, and you need a good grasp of a-level maths and physics to be able to complete it.
there are student loans and grants available, just contact your local LEA

you will be classed as mature student then like me You should get all your fees paid for you and entrance into uni will be easier. But you will still have to get Student loans etc like myself. Though you wont have to pay uni fees which take a big chunck out of it.
Now im not sure if that still applies in England as you uni fees have shot up! Unlike ours. If i was you i would contact local uni and LEA.

Go to uni for 3 years, leave, and STILL be below the guy who didnt go to uni but worked his way up to that level for those 3 years, while he was earning a wage too.
Fuck that

Not necisarrly Steve, it happens yes. But to be honest its down to the people. Getting a Degree dont entile you to a job.
I done it as i was stuck in dead end job and kinda left school with not the best GCSE's as i couldnt be arsed with it. Since i gone to uni i have had a lot more oportunities happen. After all when i was working for 6-7months this year after 3 weeks of working there i got my bosses job after she left and i was in charge of people. Wouldnt have happened if i didnt go to uni to learn shit.
But as you said people make life without going to uni, just all down to what you want to know. If you want to be Engineer you never going to just fall into that job. You need to learn how to do crap

Lawrie.
Ever thought about being a ships engineer?
They'd snap you up mate.
www.rfa.mod.uk
click on the careers bit. Then select engineer officer.
They'd pay for you to get qualified. Then you'd walk straight into a 27k a year job. Pay goes up by 1k a year and promotion is easy enough.
