Hello Dave,

You could be my new best friend if I buy this hehe

Do you know if all the parts for the SPD kit are still availble as the guy whos selling this told me they went bust?

Do you have any pics of the impreza kit?

That pic from Nat Day is not my pal. He was the lad hooning around the track in his. Its propper piece of kit with all the right bits in all the right places. Even hads a rather nice 6 speed sequential dog box...Mmmm Expensive!

Reckons that the ammount of money the car has cost would have bought a real one. But that was not the point.

thats pretty cool, so how diff are the two kits subaru and your one SECS??? (meaning the shell and bits and bobs, not engine and trans as thats obvious)

this is pretty cool, should start a club pmsl

its prob better than the real thing, if i owned a real 200 i would be scared of using it, one of these you could cain around brands all day long without worry

could always build another

the banham and spd 1`s were molded of the orignal ford plugs.
the evo or kara models are wider and longer.
the kara 1 has very low sill covers (1 on page 1 of this thread)
the kara and mercery (evo) were rear engined, the banham was built on a mg maestro and the spd is a spaceframe chassis 4x4 or 2wd,although bob is designing a rear engined chassis as we speak.

the plugs are the ford master molds that ghia made for the group b project,
i have a picture somewhere of there first rs200 design, glad the ford bosses didn`t go with it.

the kara and mercury (evo) cars were always the daddy of the replica`s but the banham was the most correct body wise.
i have been in a few kara`s and they are a riot to drive, but they seem to be to bulky and low looking for me.

i am waiting for the rear engined spd chassis to be finished then i am gonna build 1.

here`s the difference between the kara and banham (mine)

there is subtle differences between the 2,the banham has a shorter sill section and bumper is different.

as far as i can remember ford wouldn`t give kara or mercury the licence to produce the car so all the panels had to have slight differences from the original. (may or may not be true)

were as the banham 1`s are from the ford molds, bought when ford wanted rid.

yeah the banham looks better

if you look at my post where the pic is i have commented that you can easily tell thats its not the real thing, imo it looks to long and the sides too flat

the banham of yours does lok

and you say the banham is mid engined?

Wow thanks for all the pics, that Scooby conversion does look very nice I have to say

Right I have been to see the car again and taken a lot of pics. There is lots of work left to do but I think its looks worse than it is really as all the main sub frame is finished.

The frame work has a bit of surface rust in places but it is just that and looks worse under the flash. If I went for this I would remove the body and get the whole chassis blasted and powder coated.

Here are some pics:

The kit has been modified to make the rear hinge as this kits doesn’t as standard (so im told) Body still needs trimming to fit correctly.

Floor pan, the sheet of metal is the f/w which has been placed inside, should have removed it for the pics. The two metal tubs either side of the handbrake are water pipes to run the rad in the rear.

Not sure why there is no cut-out in the middle of the spoiler like the other rs200 ive seen..

F/w in correct position.

He has the doors and front and rear screen and the ears and stuff. Even has a ford kit car loom for the lighting and electrics

These are the mounts for the front shocks, the whole cossy front end bolts straight on to this sub frame. I saw his running gear which he’s now sold (bugger) which he has trial fitting to the frame. He’s says he spent a long time getting it all to sit at the right height with the wheels at the correct camber. Again light surface rust

You can just see the rear beams mounts & dif mount on the rear sub frame

4 genuine speedline alloys

Ok so there you go lots of work still to do... So the question, is it worth £2300 for everything? May be able to get it for 2k perhaps.. This doesn’t include the wheels however. He does have everything to finish the kit however, lights clusters etc etc

Dont buy it. IMO.

SImply because theres not much done to it. And to my eyes its an ugly use of heavy looking box section. Which would make me reconsider. thats got to be thought about in terms of trying to get the car balanced. So its going to cost a fair bit to get running. Then thinking in 3-5 years when you've got bored or want to sell it for whatever reason. You've then got to put the line "Front engined RS200 Replica" in every advert. Sure its an easier build than a mdi engine replica. But I daresay it won't be as saleable.

In a similar way the Scooby engined replicas wont be worth as much as a Mid engined Cossie powered replica.

To me, and Im not saying everyone thinks this way. A replica kit car has to at least be similar to the original car. The numerous GT40 or Cobra replicas all run massive great V8s with spaceframed bits just like the Ford or AC versions. If they ran Skyline I6 twin Turbo engine then sure they may go the same speed but the demand wont be there. Its about getting something very similar to the original but for a fraction of the price IMO.

"Oddball" replicas will always find a home, but just not for the money a more standard replica will.

What you have been offered for sale would set you back about £5000 new see link.

http://www.sportsandleisurecars.co.uk/rs200_003.htm

So if this is what you are after its a bit of a bargain for £2000.

I personally would wait for the mid engined version to become available.

The Kara/ Mercury in the pics is mine and is a superb bit of kit with a 0-60 time in under 4 seconds, 0-100 appx 10 seconds 380bhp, 1100KG Rear wheel drive with lots of fun !!!!
It has an RS500 spec engine with 8 greens and a T4 turbo with the boost turned down (1.8 bar)as it breaks the UN1 gearbox with anymore torque but a new upgrade is available which handles over 500BHP I'm hoping Santa will bring me one lol.
The previous owner run it at 515BHP the gearbox lasted 9 miles !!!!!! OUCH.
The Kara uses a bespoke chassis with Leda coilover suspension.
The kit maufacture had a real RS200 as well and said they handle better than the real deal!

The problem is a decent one will set you back £15000-£20000
and the kit is not made anymore.

As for it being a replica it doesn't bother me as a real one costs 4 times as much and this will piss most thing from the lights. I have had thumbs ups from the occasinal shocked motorbike rider !

Loads of info at www.rs200replica.co.uk

Cheers Pete.

I think this has lots of potential and seems a bargain at that price. I would pay extra and get the original speedlines. It could look awesome

i agree with pete on this 1,
my banham rs200 looked orignal from the outside bar the rear window didn`t have the cooling vents in as per original.
you pays your money and makes your choice.

there is no way on earth i could afford to have a real rs200,and if i did i would only use it in fine weather.
the kit car route,be it front engined/mid engined gives the normal guy on the street a chance to own what is a super car for little money.

if you are looking at getting a replica (what ever it is) as long as it looks right and has the right sounds and is cheap, you don`t give a shit if it is fwd.

at the end of the day there was only 16 banham molds sold, about 6-8 on the road at the mo.
kara had about 10-15 cars built
evo about the same

so this little replica is even rarer than the 200+ that ford made as the rs200.

for the money it is a bargain, less than half price and the hardest part fitting the body right has been done (although not permantly fixed to the chassis yet)
cossie motor and 2wd,what a hoot, arse out fun for little money.

if i was the 1 that had this sitting down my drive, would i really care that it was not an original replica, not at all
