Default SPD 200 (RS200 rep) Now with some pics on page 2

Went to our local club meet last night and a chap turned up with a SPD200, RS200 rep kit for sale. It’s was all complete with sub frame made up and body work attached. The body works looks spot on and have been told it’s very true to the original & one of the most accurate kits.

This kit takes sierra running gear so its front engined and all the rear beam etc all mounts up to the sub frame. The guy took ages getting the mounting point right so the car sat at the right height.

I must say im quite tempted to buy this for a winter project, with a stage 3 engine & 4x4 running gear it would be a real weapon as its only a tubular frame its weighs nothing!!

Does anyone know anything about these kits or has and pics of the finished article so I can see how accurate these look when done?

The guy live local to me so will pop round in day light and take some pics of it, he’s after £2500 ish for it and has some genuine 7 spoke alloys to really set it off.
.

tempting...

Yes no problems Bri will take some pics, the guys made some good mods including an opening rear section and fittings for a rear mount radiator so a large intercooler can be added. I dont have much room at my place so thats the real drag with something like this, I could sell the coss and use the money to finish this to a real high standard perhaps..

If they are genuine RS200 speedline allyos then just buy the car and find out what they are worth alone!

My mate has a RWD one and its a weapon!

Dean I wish I had the room for two cars.. Big decision to sell the 3door..

The wheels are genuine 200 wheels but hes said he would want a bit extra if they are being included.

Can see what your saying Carl about the sides, does look though!!

Will take some pictures of the car tomorrow if i can catch up with the guy, from what ive read the plastics on the SPD kit are the best so will be good to compare.

Yes could be a great project Phil, even a good stage 3 4x4 lump would fly with the weight of the thing!!

i was driving back from college one day last year and was gobsmacked too see this driving down the road in the middle of the day (most are tucked away and only come out for shows as you all know )

so i spun round and chased after the chap flashed him down and got him to pull over for a chat!!

said it was a late registered one and that he had owned it from new, it only had like 30k on it and was 380bhp iirc, commented he would never sell it and wants to be really old still enjoying it

he said the weather was good so he thought he would take it for a blat!!

he asked for me to come and find him nat day, i found the car in parc ferme but coudnt find the owner

think he did a track day at bedford this year too

when we finished chattin he planted it off down the road, gripped and fookin flew

How readily available are the mid engined boxes (UN-1, Reno 20, 25) and what do they usually go for???

Looks ace John, and at that price must be so tempting

Yes SPD is front engine but it’s designed so that 4x4 cos running gear just bolts straight to the sub frame. So all parts are just normal cos parts and you don’t have to worry about finding replacements when you break stuff. Plus can use all the uprated Cosworth parts to go BIG power if you like. Front engine doesn’t put me off really.

I’m going to have a look at it tomorrow I hope Dean in daylight, will take the camera and get some pics up. I am tempted but im a little worried its more than I can handle as would still need lots of fabrication work doing. See what I think after seeing it again.

Not so sure it would really.. It’s a rep so what does it matter, even a rear engined one is still going to be the wrong engine anyway when people look. Think the advantages of it being the running gear or a cos outweighs it being mid engined. Plus have read that gearboxes are a nightmare sourcing for mid engine. Plus remember this is going for just over 2k not silly money!!

It’s not in a finished state at the moment, still loads of work to be done, only the major fabrication is complete but you can get a good idea of what it could be if done right.

Does anyone have a clue what a sort of money a good 200 rep goes for? Wouldn’t want to sell my cossy and plough all the money in to this only to find its worth 4-5k when complete: cry:

You know you want it! Do it, do it, DO IT NOW!!!

I'd love something like this - my Saph Cos would be a good donor - it's good but the body / paint finish let it down.

Plonk all the the good bits on the SPD, and have best of both worlds!

Plus my housemate is a dab hand at Fabrication - it's his living and the man behind all the bling bits we do.

Hmmm, maybe I should get it!!

Fight ya for it!!!

well i said a head tuner and a tool

which it will be.... people who dont know what a rs200 is will still stare...

people who know what a 200 is, will still stare and prob think its a real one...

people who REALLY know what a rs200 is will still look ( and prob make the comment to whoever they happen to be with that its not a real one) but still stare and prob think its cool that you have gone to the lenghts to have done this

and it will be a tool because its such a lightweight

The 3door would have to go to fund finishing it so its a tough call to make..
