I am going to be changing my clutch on my 4x4 saff which is running stage 3 closed loop at approx 300 ish bhp's. Can anyone andvise a dumbo like me whether the recommendation to get an Alcon plate and a Ford cover is still valid as there were thoughts they had changed the cover.

No idea pal, I just got an AP organic plate and uprated cover and bearing from Mike Rainbird for my stage 3 4x4 saff and its fine. A tad heavy compared to standard but holds the power more than adequately

If its any help, I am using AP fast roaf plate and cover on my 2wd with slightly more power, and it is wearing extremely well, particularly given the track use she gets

i think the clutch is the least of your worries

although i am still waiting to see a good reply on the toilet blockage

You are in fact correct my haory arsed builder type friend however I will be needing to replace the clutch when the engine has been extracted from the vehicle.

That should be fine as long as the cover is new.

If you plan to tune it further in the future I would fit the uprated cover and go hydraulic, you will then have a super heavy duty clutch but still have a light pedal.

Hydraulic conversion £575 plus vat
AP 6 paddle and cover £320 plus vat

Fitting of the clutch would be foc if done at the same time as a hyd conversion.

Thats great Martin thanks for the reply. I plan to keep at stage 3 ish, maybe a t34 later but cant afford to go daft on power.

I notice everyone, including you, has quoted AP clutches and not Alcon. Alcon was all the rage a year or so ago, have things moved on for AP and are they better clutches?

Sorry for asking all of these questins but I dont want to have to remove this engine again...lol
