Uprated French ones?
No chance these are being confused with the MTX75 gearbox is there? This was used in the diesel escorts, and many cars on the continent are diesel, so it would figure....
An iB5 won't last long with 200bhp / lbs. Couple of thousand miles or so unless driven really carefully.![Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
MTX75 box should handle an extra 30bhp / lbs.

No they're not!!! the MTX is built in Cologne Germany, there is a heavier duty (greater torque) rated iB5 box currently being manufactured at the plant in Bordeaux France

Never knew that
You say currently being manufactured... so does that mean they were never fitted to Escorts?
Can't see why they'd bother with different gearbox specs given all engines are the same

Correct they were never fitted to Escorts. The 5 speed MTX is an extremely expensive box to manufacture in comparison to an uprated B5 so its purely cost driven and will utimately result in the demise of the MTX. Which for the record is rated at 250 nm

Larger mainshaft bearing than the BC boxes so should last a bit more though it does depend how you use the box. If your hard like I am and kill them often then theres not much point in my opinion though Bernie and others may have better experience

So there were 2 different ratings of iB5 available in the escort?
First I've heard of this.
The same basic 'box is still used in new Fiestas, including the ST so I could understand if that had some stronger internals, but not the old mk5/6 sheds
Apologies to D19STE for this off-topicness
I still say 250bhp through an iB5 is living on borrowed time

2 different ratings, I honestly dont know.
250 genuine with a decent torque figure will kill any std ford fwd box bar the mtx75 which will handle a good bit more from what ive heard from good sources.
From experience the mtx is FAR stronger than both the BC and IB5 boxes.

lmao, thats fucked that is!
the mk3 mondeo diesel six speed is a mtx75-6 or something, it's a mtx75 with six gears. This is in no-way the same as the old st170 box.
The ford galaxy 6 speed box is a VW box, BUT i have heard it can be made to fit a ford as the bell housing isn't that much differnt, but thats all i know.

Does it share any other similiarities with the MTX75? If it's the same bolt pattern, shaft fitment, etc.. it should fit in place anywhere an MTX75 does!
Ratios might be a bit fucked though

I ran an IB5 with 185 BHP / 200 Lb ft for 6 years and over 60,000 miles including track days and sprints. Still going fine.
Another IB5 has been coping with 270+ BHP and similar Lbft torque for the last two years on sprints (double entered) with road mileage as well. Note that in this instance boost is controlled in first and second gears to reduce effective torque.
