Default Can you fix...

a split rubber gaitor on a ball joint?

I've bought a brand new upper ball joint for my Levin. I've just gone to fit it and being a pillock, managed to damage the rubber boot, put a couple of small splits in it near the base.

I don't want to have to buy another as £50 is a joke for a ball joint, it's only a small thing

Anyone know if there are anyways to seal it up? Any glues, etc? Can you get universal boots? Can you melt some extra rubber and drip it onto the cracks (does rubber even melt and drip?)

Chuck it out and get a new one. No matter what you do with it, it won't last, Causing you more expense in the long run.

It's a £750 car, wheel bearing needed doing, so far the it's cost me £210 without labour - thats an expensive wheel bearing, not spunking another £50 on it unless I have to.

I'm a student tosser, cheap and chearful bodges are what I'm after.

bit of silicon sealer would probably sort it and is fairly flexable.

will be better than nothing anyway

Superglue works and lasts but the join has to be free of grease, use carb cleaner or similar, use a cotton bud don't spray the cleaner in and wash out all the grease from the join. I've done a few.

Or buy a new boot from ebay .
