It Wasnt Me!
Good cars, handle well 167bhp std. . pretty fast! what I thought they lacked tho was torque, and the one I was in had a 5speed box (XSI converted to GTI6 - or GTI5 rather )

My mate had one from new until 158k miles and loved it. He had a few electrical probs with it (just like I had with my 206 gti) but other than that it was a sound car.
The steering lock is shite though, so you end up doing 40 point turns etc!

I've just sold my gti-6 for spares! Cambelt failure.
Awesome cars for the money, and I'd imagine the lift of oversteer on track would be a right laugh!
Very quick capable cars IMO. bit different if your used to a turbo kick as you have to give it death to get the best out of em.
One of the best all rounders you can get for less than 2K.
I'll probally have one again as a track toy when circumstances allow.

I Just got a 306 xsi and will upgrade to the gti6 as soon as I find one that wants some TLC..
Great cars and handle really well BUT In my opinion after driving Karls Gti6 and driving my 306 xsi I cant really see the justification in extra wedge.
THe main differences are Brakes and BHP- which is a mixture of the inlet/exhaust manifolds and the higher rev limit/slightly different map oh and the 6 speed box.
Other than that- half leather/alcantara trim and that it.
If you get one- Cambelt AND tensioners is a must.

Jake - we went from an XSi (8v) to the Phase 2 GTi6 and the difference was remarkable!
Different class of car really and much superior handling.
Brother's GTi6 had an inlet manifold split on him which was a little pricey, but otherwise, what an awesome car.
Amazing on track too...........
Spiky - still got the beemer for sale?

I had the GTi-6's predecessor, the S16 and that bent 14 out of 16 valves after a track day at Combe
I'd have another tomorrow tho. In fact once I've sold my 106XSi it's one of the cars on my list. It passed your Escort on the same track day*
I think standard power for the GTi-6 is 167bhp
*That may have had something to do with the amount of time you spent on the infield tho

Fuckin brilliant cars loved mine, standard suspension was better than when I lowered it! Just replace manufacturers stuff!
Snap belts all the time. Had a 306xsi before and the GTi is a massive improvement, great to live with everyday
De-cating it is well worth doing.

IF you can stretch to about 3.5k - 4k then you could get a clio 172
Great fun car, perfect for the odd track day, and has all the extra's and comforts you could need.

3750 should EASILY buy you a good condition phase 1 172, circa 60k with history and a reasonable amount of owners, shoddy high milers you can find for 3k ish, even seen a couple under 3k now
