Default GT30 Turbo's (again!!)

Curious.

GT30 turbos being roller bearing or ball bearing etc.

do they have more shaft play than your regular T34?

mines got alot of play especially in comparism to my old T34 & T38, both up and down by a good few mm and also in and out by about 4 - 5 mm.

just a little worried thats all, just the car it came off was very slightly smokey at times and then with the turbo having this bit of play im getting worried on what ive spent money on.

doesnt sound too good that kelv. i was lead to beleive that no turbo should have any movement in and out. Especially not 4-5mm

Hey chaps, just to confirm.... 1mm of play up and down and 1mm of play in and out. Well within tolerences of GT series turbos, as confirmed by Mr Shead. ( me bro took the turbo over to marks yesterday ).

RS1 - thats not really where this thread is trying to go.

he is a good mate, i know him and the car and have pretty much been there for almost every mile the turbo has covered - and with it having only covered 2000 miles it was never considered to be an issue.

he is certainly not trying to stich me up with a dodgy turbo - and it has been spoken that if it is pooped that we will sort it amicably!

but with myself having never had any true experince with the GT range of turbos i was just after an extra opinion.

Cheers for the input people.

...my GT35 has movement side to side and in and out from COLD no idea the amount but its quite normal compared to a normal turbo

Kelv can you spin the comp wheel and manage to push it to touch the housing?..If not then it should be within tolerences....
