bit of a risk buying thing like that off ebay anyway.

got to be 100% you know what it is and its genuine.

see T4's popping up on there too, not the genuine ones. , welll one or 2 now and again.

This is a good piece of info. I can't tell you how many times we get asked to fit a turbo that someone has paid Ł300 for off Ebay.

trouble is, that review is blatanty written by some bandwagoner whos never tried one tho, esp as used the famous pic thats been round the internet for years and you dont even see that turbo for sale anyhow.

saying stuff like "most petrol application turbochargers are watercooled, none of these are(costs too much) and they don't feature integral wastegates(to complex-too expensive to manuf.)" is not just total shite (ie tons of modern turbos arnt water cooled), but not even correct (ie i actualy have a water cooled, internal wastegate, ball bearing cored turbo, that was made in china, in a box down the workshop)

there tons of companies making these turbos in china, some may be shite, but most arnt. if they ever were, seems like it, theyve learn from their mistakes and realised they better off making decent ones, as it still costs fuck all at their labour rates compared to ripoff UK etc.

i know for a fact more than one tuner in the UK (non cossie) that sells and uses "chinese" turbos under their brand name with no issue.

i also know for a fact Holset have tested the copies of Holset turbos these factorys make, and found they perform pretty much identically, tho generally arnt quite as well made, but considering the money, the off the record comment is, they suprisingly good.

its the knack of knowing WHICH ones is the issue.

most people in this world consider a "T4" to be pretty much all the same type of turbo.
hell, technically my GTR turbo is a T4, and its rated to over 900bhp...

As Stavros says......dont knock it til youve tried it.

Wont write it all again but read my comments on this thread for "real life" experience of a non branded unit like this.

Just for the record that review is shite........

1. Non water cooled? So what?
2. No internal wastegate? What like a real RS500 T4 you mean....or a GT series Garrett both dont come with built into the housing.

Just thought id BTTT it as proof of how bullshit all this rumour is was at Japshow at Santapod...

Awesome Supra came 2nd overall, doing 10.0quarters, no nitrous, tons of runs and no issues.

And guess what.

He was running an XS Power turbo

He said exactly what I said in the past, he took it apart before he fitted it, checked it all, and was as well made as the Trust T88 that was on the car before, but performed better.

They durability tested the thing on the dyno, holding the turbo at mega boost and mega EGT for long periods to see if itd fail, nothing.

Not saying all these turbos are good, but just cause a turbo is made in china, dont mean its crap, fancy badges and big price tags dont mean shit.

And don't forget, that Holset, or Cummins Turbo Technologies, as they are now known, do have a factrory in China

i cant help but think that you buy a little bit of piece of mind when you get a turbo from a brit company you know and you know others have used, nothing worse than tanking down the road thinking about a component under the bonnet and if its gonna let go and trash some other expensive parts
you want get me doing 150+ on shitty tyres just cos my mate has tryed them and says they r fine!!
my expensive turbo makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside

Polly is right, if i understand em right.

The wastegate part of the RS500 turbo is kinda bolted to the back, hard to explain, but its sorta seperate if you look.
And big GT series turbos dont, but smaller ones do.

Its a separate bolt on piece on an RS500 T4.......What I meant was not part of a single casting like a T34 or T3 type exhaust housing.
