I welcome Jack Straws veiws on this. It has been an issue for me for some time, if muslims really do want to integrate themselves into our society/country then they must be willing to adopt our culture. In my increasingly racist outlook, muslims are hypocrites they are happy to embrace all that suits them, ie; drinking/smoking etc then they colonise areas of our cities, and then have the audacity to pontificate about the way we live our lives, promiscuity, binge drinking etc.

Just to get back on topic, and also play devil's advocate for a second, Straw said about veils making things difficult for communication, and so far there have been at least ten replies saying:

Too easy to go down the route, like France did, of restricting people's civil liberties by banning any outward display of religious preference, and that is never a good thing!

I actually agree that it makes communication difficult, and wearing a veil IS a barrier when two people try to communicate. That is pure common sense, and is not meant to offend anyone. Muslim councils that have reacted angrily to Straw's comments have entirely missed the point.

It's not a dig at a religion - just a matter of fact observation. Muslim counclis would have been far better off just saying "yes, we like wearing veils - what's the problem?" instead of getting all high and mighty and getting offended at every opportunity.

Aside from all that, there should never be a case where government dictates what people can and cannot wear.

 

For a start you cant go into a bank or most shops with a crash helmet on in case your gonna raid the place so why can they cover there face?Its the Uk,not fookin baghdad.Live to our rules or if you dont like it go back home.Stop rammin your way of life down our throats whilst in the uk.

What rules? So muslim women going into shops wearing veils has been a serious problem up until now has it? Considering the muslim community is accused of being too insular, and that they generally only shop in muslim owned shops etc, it therefore shouldn't be a problem for you should it, because you're never likely to see a muslim lady wearing a veil in your bank.

Stop looking for an excuse to discriminate against someone. Grow some balls, and just come out and say you don't like people wearing alternative clothing!
