DONT DO IT!!! An engine should never be steam cleaned because pressurised water can get anywere and take weeks to get out.

Imagine it got into your electrics or it piersed a hole in a fuel line? That would be a recepie for disaster.

and i take it you do this to a cossies daily then ...cos i must bring mine to you .. you must be the only one in the country that can do it then ... first thing you learn about owning a 13 year old taxi is never to add high pressure water or steam to the engine ...

but i would like to draw your attention to this thread ..

Also washing it with the engine running is a very very very bad idea. Imagine you get some water into the intake and from there it gets into your engine. Liquid doesn't compress anywhere near as easily as a gas which is not good for your engine lol.

I know a boy who jet washed a brand new Golf (completly standard) with the engine running. It was the most expensive engine cleaning session ever!

just dont go mad and you'll be fine. i've done all my engine bays with the pressure washer at work. leave it running, spray some cleaner on it and leave a few mins then spray off just dont spray directly onto any electrical components or the air filter

water vapor in a petrols intake isnt too much of a problem mate - hence aquamist water spray systems

but water and idle control valves dont mix too well unless you like a 4k tickover for several hours

I've done it. It's -very- effective at getting the engine clean and very fast.

However if I was doing it again I think I'd do it the slower harder way.
