What i mean is , they will never have the following ( world wide ) etc and the status that the name cosworth has

altho they are a great car , a cosworth is a cosworth and it will take a rather special car to be the new cossie ,,if you know what i mean

Pete

cossies are now 20 years old , my point is that they may not now be the fastest cars or the most reliable , BUT , will any of the jap cars be as popular in 20 years ???

I dont think so ..

They are stunning looking and very impressive to drive , but will never have the long lasting "must have " factor that the cossie has

Paul

theres more to owning a cossie then power!!! cosowrth is a name thats been stamped in history i doubt that anyone will remeber anything special about an evo in the future.

they are good cars but dont have the presence or the folloing and i doubt they ever will.

You've already broken my Saph. I've put a date in the diary in a few years time you can have my STI and break that . Never got the Monaro in the end, couldn't find a good one on my budget.

They have no need to be long lasting, as they are continually evolving with new technology and not one minute wonders.

How long till some 1 puts an evo engine/gearbox/diffs with active YAW control and all the electronics that make an evo such a quick car in escos shell.

The AYC etc is the stuff people prefer to not have on the Evos often enough.

Dont get the idea they handle cause they got computers doing it all for them, they handle cause the suspension geometry, transmission, etc isnt shit

Not all Evos have the AYC, the RS's don't - neither does the IX GT.

i noticed on this forum a lot of talk about evo or cossy ? .the thing is the 2 cars are totally different and in no way can they be compared to one another .i can speak with a lot of personal experience of both cars .over several years i first owned a 2wd sapp running approx 300bhp ,then a 4x4 sapp approx 300bhp then a escort cos 4x4 in standard form then back to a sapp 4x4 standard then my last sapp cos 4x4 running approx 380bhp at least ( very fast car indeed ) the last cossy i owned for 8 yrs and for the last year owned an evo 4 standard at the same time .then i sold both and bought an evo 6 tme that i have now ,the tme is running over 360bhp and feels fast .the biggest difference is the handling ,the evo standard will run rings round a cosworth with uprated shocks and springs on .the other main noticable thing is the evos break less mechanicly but the cossys are cheaper to fix ( diy ) as a blind man could work on a cosworth .i for one though would never under estimate a sorted cosworth .all said and done the cossy is not that far behind the evo even on a twisty B road and i have driven all of them ie the sapp / esc / evo 4 / evo 6 .one way to compare the evo v cosworth is the evo is a jet fighter and the cossy is the fighter / bomber .i will one day own a sapp 4x4 cosworth again because they are legendary and i miss the brutality of the power delivery only the cossy has .

Gaz007

some good points mate

What we have to remember is tho that there is 10 years between the first cossie and the first evo"s ( maybee more ) so they cant realy be compared that well

Having said that the cossie still holds its own against cars 20 years newer Will there ever be a car that holds its own in 20 years built today ??? Never in a million years .

The cossie is a legend , simple as that and thats why people love them

COSWORTH , what other car name makes people talk as much as that

Modern cars are all electronics , yes they are more reliable , if it wasnt for that fact would any of you seriously own one if a cossie was as reliable ????

I would honestly think not

Or is that to obvious,

I will have a ford one day again because i love cossie's my rst was great fun, but i have what i want now,

Look for any post were i have said that cossie's are crap ...............................

Every Evo is better then the last hence the name, if only Ford did the same and kept relising a new and better model more of us might have cossie's ,

I think there are hundreds of people like you ..

Still love cossies etc , BUT need a car you can use day to day , so sensible you buy a modern jap car , but you will have another cossie one day when you can justify owning a car you cant use

To be fair Paul, I have been extremely lucky with reliability in the 6˝ years that I've owned my Escos, but as parts get harder to source and parts wearing out on a 12 year old car, I am being a realist and sticking with the Evo and selling the Escos. I have loved the Escos to bits the whole time I've owned it [still do] and I will be absolutely gutted when it's sold.

I have always liked Evos but never enough to sell the Escos for one. This year I had the chance to get one without selling the Escos and I had it in my mind that I would never like it as much as the Escos, but I was wrong..... I love driving the Evo, I like everything about it, bar the crap turning circle fuel consumption is far better, handling is awesome and modding is cheap for a reliable 360-370bhp.

hmm this is an intresting post...as 'redkop' said...'they have no need to be long lasting, as they are continually evolving with new technology and not one minute wonders.'

as this is said, what it the point of buying 1? as if there always evolving you as a buyer will never actulli have the up to date evo, each new model will make the older model lose vale, so u as buyers are loosing money in the car world COSWORTHS are like the never dying legend, jap cars are constantly being updated so the evo which people drive now in 5 years will be worth nothing however a good cosworth will hold its value or even go up in value...thers no doubt about that

In 5 years time my Evo will be 8 years old and still have newer technology than my Escos which would be 17 years old...... think about it
