Default steel rods in engine question

say i wanted steel rods in my engine.would it be an engine out job or could somebody do it with the engine still in the car?cheers guys

engine out mate and complete strip down

as the pistons have to come out with the rods to change the rods over

If you really wanted to do it in situ you could remove the sump and unbolt the big ends then withdraw the piston and rod from the top once you have removed the head.

If I were doing the job i would rather remove the engine, it might be faster.

As above, its POSSIBLE to do in the car, but given that at the same time you are likely to be also changing bearings and probably wanting the crank polished, i would take it out personally.

Personally i'd whip the sump off,whip the rod caps off and have a squint off the bearings/crank. If there good i'd leave the engine in a just whip the head off.

My rods where installed with the engine in situ (first time round ). Bit of a bugger getting the sump+gasket back on so I've heard though!
