Waiting for the anti Top-Gear brigade to crawl out the woodwork though. He will have known the risks like any car nut. How many of us would have leapt at the chance to drive something like that?

He was VERY lucky he was in a proper drag car at the time,proper safety
cage,full harnesses,helmet and fire suit.He would also have had his arms
strapped in to protect them in a roll .
Very few drag racers die from crashes,it is one of the safest motor sports.
Just consider if he had been in one of the many 200mph super cars they test
in a similar accident ,no safety eqpt or gear in those !
I wish him a speedy recovery,

He's such a great bloke and really makes top gear worth watching as some have said as much as JC. I was completly gutted to hear this, hope theres still a chance for him to recover. Can't imagine what his family are going through right now.

It didnt use to have a cage, but it does now.
Rod was adement for a long time that it didnt need one as it was "just my road car for going to work and back in" etc but obviously it got to the stage where the speeds involved were so high that everyone pressed him into getting a cage fitted, and rightly so of course!

the horrible irony is that, when he crashed and suffered a bit of whiplash recently, he was joking about taking the bbc to court for the injury as he was in the workplace
he very plainly explained the resons he woldn't (loss of his job for one) but i can't see his family taking such a stand
what i can't comprehend is that they are saying hamster was a "last minute stand in for james may" aka captian slow
hopefully tomorrow will bring better news and he will recover 100%

then again, there are times when it's just not right to make light of the situation
if he was either ok or dead then, after a while, there will have been a small period before these sorts of stamtements would have been "postable" even though they may not have been acceptable

According the daily mail, jeremy Clarkson said he thinks he has a 50/50 chance of survival. But i dont believe what newspapers say to be honest until i see it on sky news, and the statement he made has nothing of the sort in it.
But apparently his dad said the same thing and that was on a BBC news website, and thats from my mum but i havent seen that either.

Doctors at Leeds General Infirmary said they were "reasonably optimistic" the 36-year-old would make a good recovery.
All the best he gets well soon. Top Gear won't be the same without him

Top Gear isn't just about JC, to lose Richard or even James May would be catastrophic to the show
the three of them have such a great on screen rapport it wouldn't be the same with one of them missing
