the papers say that he was doing 315 when the rear tyre blew out and the car barrel rolled a few times
apaprently the guy on the scene said the roll over bars had dug into the ground and his head was wedged into the dirt
seems to have come out of it better in the greenery than if he's have been on the tarmac all the while though
get well soon hamster

a bloke from the scene said something about him rearing to the right and then it hit the dirt and just kept on rolling. The sun comes out with some shit sometimes about 315 when every other newspaper was saying 280.
Apparently them specific jet cars can reach 370mph

if they had stuck to being a proper journalistic motoring programme and not trying to always have the next sensational item on there, it might never have happened

Just realised that the saftey guy was Dave from PF wasn't it?!?!?!?!
Poor bloke. That must have been an awful thing to deal with
Former firefighter Dave Ogden, who runs private firm Event Fire Services, was one of the first people at the scene of the crash.
He said: "We were down there with Top Gear who were filming him trying to break the British land speed record.
"On the previous run, the car had just gone over 300mph but I am not sure if it had broken the record.
"They had just done one more run and were planning to finish when it veered off to the right.
"One of the parachutes had deployed but it went on to the grass and spun over and over before coming to a rest about 100 yards from us."
He said his crew and an ambulance that was already on the airfield rushed over and found the car upside down and "dug in" to the grass.
Mr Ogden said he felt for a pulse and heard Mr Hammond breathing before the emergency crews worked together to turn the car the right way up and then cut him free.
He added: "He was regaining consciousness at that point and said he had some lower back pain. But he was drifting in and out of consciousness a little bit."

Nothing new on the news bulletin....apart from calling journalists/ tv presenters/ stars to not take part in this kind of thing anymore: and other dangerous activities for the sake of their show.
I can't really see that happening tho as being involved in things like this is partly why they do what job they do.
Get well soon Richard.

Last night`s news made a big point of how he was flown to Leeds Hospital which has a speciality neurology unit.
Let's just hope that it's just swelling on the brain & not permanent damage
Top bloke - always enjoy his style of presenting
Hope he makes a speedy, full recovery

Cant see where the brain damage rumour has come from.
The hospital would not disclose this kind of information to the press at such short interval from the accident..
I hope he gets well soon.

It didnt use to have a cage, but it does now.
Rod was adement for a long time that it didnt need one as it was "just my road car for going to work and back in" etc but obviously it got to the stage where the speeds involved were so high that everyone pressed him into getting a cage fitted, and rightly so of course!
