Default Diff recommendations

I have an Escort Cosworth currently running 500bhp (with a possiblility of goign to 600bhp in the near future) with ATB Quiafe diffs. I am scared that these diffs will let go if I launch the car, and was wondering what my options were within a 5k budget for front and rear

you have not mentioned what gearbox you have ?

the 5K will get you nothing if you havnt already got a box to handle 500hp nevermind 600hp

with the rear diff, you only have 2 real options, stick with ford and use the 9" ( there goes most of your 5k ) or use a non ford item for considerably less,
the front fit the 8.5" group a diff sump and crossshaft ( 4.5K)

these are your only real guranteed reliability front and rear diffs, all others are just holding in there waiting to break, you get what you pay for.

all use dependant of course, if you just go shopping with your 600hp and never come on boost then just stick to std

like that was important enough for me to remember

so , the score looks even better, the guy has got the dogs bollox of a gearbox to begin with top bloke

so save yourself a bit more cash, up the 5k to 7.5k and you have then got the best transmission ever designed for a cosworth - fit and forget
then unleash your 600hp with a worry free status

Hi Mark, thanks for the advice. How much does the 8.5 inch group a diff cost? Will this involve a lot of engineering (i.e. moving the engine etc?) Also where would I get one from? What ratios should I go for, seeing that this is goign to be a road/track car with emphasis on track

You wont have problem's with a ATB,

I've never heard of one breaking, unless its old, worn and un serviced.

What costs are involved with the rear beam to go with the 9" rear diff?

A std 2wd rear axle will take a 9" diff , no need to buy anything exotic .

Cheers Tony.

as simple as that.

no welding of carriers as maybe sugested above - any other special fabrication required to make it all fit, other than a prop id guess.

obviously using the 2wd beam the 2wd arms etc will all be required aswell but do they meet up perfectly with the 9" diff atall.

Lots of questions from myself, decided transmission is going to be the next big spendauture so gathering as much info as i can.... Cheers

Hi Mate

you have got about 4 choices

uprated VC lsd with uprated planet gears 7 or 7.5

Atb 7 or 7.5

plated diff 7 or 7.5

9" diff either uprated VC or plated

don't forget your car is a 4wd so you only have about 70% that goes to the rear wheels

with all the 7 and 7.5 diffs i have mensioned the weakest link is the CWP even shot peend they can still break

saying that i haven't broke a CWP yet on my 7.5 plated diff and thats 100% rwd

if your after an uprated box new big tooth striaght cut mt75 box we are testing them now

have alook on here how progress is going
