Default Buying a good saff ,,part 2

Following on from my last post talking about " are there any good saffs left "

I went on sunday ( my day off ) tp look at a superb saff @ lincoln , 2 hours drive for me .

The owners description ,,

68,000 miles FSH, previous MOT"s etc etc

Interior
the best leather trim you will find in any cosworth

bodywork
One very minor rust spot on drivers arch

engine
super sweet , runs like a drem , no rattles . smoke etc etc

wheels and tryres
Std rims in A1 condition with new tyres

This sounded a nice ar @ 4k

So i got up early on my day off and took the trip over

WELL,,

My description

68,000 miles ,, what about the other 100,000

Interior

Mint black leather i have seen ( apart from the 3" slash in the drivers seat and the paint on both front seats )

Bodywork

All 4 arches are scabby as fuck
N/s rear quater has a great scrape and dents all down it

Has had more paint than the fourth bridge
Drivers door fucked , boot lock missimg
Inners wings welded up ( badly )

engine

didnt even bother starting it after looking at the bodywork and interior

Wheels and tyres

Scabby std rims wirh odd tyres

WHY WHY WHY do people talk shit

I looked at the car for 30 seconds and told the bloke the car was a total shitter and walked away telling him i had broke better cars and that i was going before i battered the shit out of him for telling me fucking bollocks about his car

I am getting sick of travelling hundreds of miles and spending loads on fuel etc to see cars that are mint ,,that are fit to be breakers

I am startint to loose faith in people now

I didnt expect a concourse car for 4k but this was a total shitter

I expected it to have seen paint ( they all have ) but this had been repainted about 8 times and was a propper Ł200 blow over

My point is that people tell you totaly the opposite of what you see ,

as said i dont expect a perfect car , just a decent car thats as described

What do people still do this? Do they really expect that you will part with your money on their description.

Every time I have bought any car, I insist on multiple close up pictures to support the claims made for the car. Those with shitters don't even reply but the proper sellers are usually happy to oblige if they think you are an interested buyer. I know pictures don't show all but it saves a lot of driving miles.

Thanks for that

To be honest your right though , its respect that everyone expects and there is no reason to tell people bollocks , just the truth that everyone wants and thats what they get from me and its all expact back

it's strange with cossies, take mine i just sold,to look at it was a very tidy car, only a tiny tiny bit of rust on one arch (under the paint) fresh built engine, decent spec nearly 400bhp,a nice looking honest saff,i sold it for nearly Ł6k even though it had 13 odd owners, and had been resprayed a different colour a few years earlier...

this to me was a classic case of buy as you see,the car was lovely looking, drove faultlessly and was well specced for the dosh.

but some people would rather buy a low mileage, lower specced car with only a few owners, almost regardless of condition etc cos they think they'll get a nice car, which isn't always the case!!!

a mate bought a car off a trader on here from memory, admittedly it was lovely looking with fresh paint, but it was obvious to me when i first saw it a rebuild was only a few hundred miles away,he's now having to shell out for a rebuild on a saff that cost near Ł7k!!! moral is be vigilant regardless of what the seller says!!

not a dig at you btw Paul,i've only ever heard great things about the things you sell!

but people should be totally honest regardless of price!!!

ive seen a few saphs before i got mine, most where wank and tbh they was the big money ones

the cheepest one i seen was the first car i seen, it wa a black 2wd saph that wyn on here was selling, was only stage 1 and thats why i never bought it, tbh i wish i did as i later found that black 2wd cossies are rare and even though it wasnt perfect, it wasnt a bad one, only prob i found was the leaking in the boot

then i seen lots of cars for over 5k that where wank, had a bloke in essec say he "may" sell his saph but he aint gonna give it away as its a nice car,,,, WAS THE WORST FUCKING CAR IVE SEEN, RUST ON THE FUCKING ROOF, NEAR THE WINDOW SEALS, BOTH ARCHES AND WAS 350BHP WITH A FUCKING 2WD COOLER, WAS A FUCKING MESSED UP PEICE OF CRAP

i bought the one i did as it was tbh cheap for the spec but lacked history,,,, infact its lacking even more than it did as my missus binned the only history it had a few months later as the thought it was part of her old college work

kinda my point, people seem to value history with these cars too much,ok fair enough if you haven't a clue about cars and you'd like to know about it's past, but to me it's more important to buy a car that is spot on when i see it,i don't particularly care if it's had it's oil changed religiously and you have every receipt for every window wiper you have ever bought, i wanna know the engine is sweet and the body is good!!

your not driving peices of paper around, your driving the car...so make sure it's spot on!

back to the original topic anyway the prices for saffs are all over the place now, really cheap ones about and some well dear ones,it really is pot luck!

Martin

I agree 100% , history isnt that much of an issue to me , I would rather have a car with 10 owners and no history thats a good honest car in good candition with a sweet engine etc and drives nice , than a low owner bag of shite ,

we forget that they are old cars now and most of the history with these cars is bollox anyway service stamps by the same garage in the midlands when its been owned by a scotish fella for the last 3 years ,,shit like that

I dont expect new looking cars for 4 /5k , i just expect honest descriptions of them so i can decide if i want to view or not if i think i can sell the car on for a little proffit or not

totally agree, must be so so frustrating for you!

i've done it myself when looking for cars for mates, they're advertised as good clean cars, yet within 5 seconds of seeing them you know you've wasted your time! makes you wanna kick off big time!

Thats half the problem though surely, you are trying to make money from a car which means you have to do one of three things:

a) buy it for less than its worth
b) sell it for more than its worth
c) buy something with problems and fix it

If the person you were buying from had the knowledge to know the exact details of what they were selling then surely they would be selling it at the same price that you would sell it for and hence you would see no profit?
