Kwik Fit
Bit of a long post, sorry if it's in the wrong section.
Three days ago Benni (the Benni from this forum) had to go to Kwik Fit for new tyres and brakes as his tyres were down to 1.6mm tread and his brakes were grinding. He asked for new disks, pads, tyres and wheel realignment as the car pulls strongly to the left.
The guy at Kwik Fit drove Ben's car from the bay onto the ramp, he got out and said the car was pulling to the left as the left tyres had a lower PSI than the ones on the right...without even looking at them rofl...he then said the brakes weren't grinding. The tyre PSI was 32 all round, and the brakes were grinding but he refused to fit new ones, claiming they were flat spots on the disc’s; you can hear them and when he got his car serviced at 13k Ford's told him his pads and disc’s were 80-90% worn...the car has now done 16k :-D :-D
Anyway they put new tyres on it but instead of putting the same ones that came with the car (which were very good) they put on two 'Goodyear Eagle NCT5'....worst...tyre....ever.
I quote this from blackcircles.com
The Goodyear Eagle NCT5 tyre is a long life tyre with a high quality drive experience. This tyre is built for motorway and general driving. Some say the driving in the wet can be a little slippy as the tyre has a hard compound hence its extended life. Its main competitor is probably the Pirelli P6000. It is the perfect tyre for long mileage but its performance capabilities are in question.
Life: 4.5 out of 5
Handling: 2.5 out of 5
Noise: 3 out of 5
We have done 250 miles on these tyres so they are scrubbed in and cornering and braking is dangerous...even at perfectly normal speeds
For example, even in the dry the ABS is working over time to stop the wheels locking and there’s no sharp jolt. In-fact the ABS completely gave up on two occasions, the front wheels locked and the engine stalled.... :confusedwait: Haven't seen what they are like in the wet but I know it will be bad.
We went back to Kwik Fit and asked for are old tyres back :-D :-D The nugget behind the counter argued that those tyres were the best they sold and were £93 + VAT + fitting. We were both in tear's and neither of us could stop laughing, he must of felt 'yay' big.
Ben then said "I bought a Focus Zetec because it handled well, if I wanted awful handling I would have bought a Fiat Stilo.....are you taking the piss?" To which the guy replied "No your taking the piss, get out or I’ll knock you out" :-D :-D :-D At that point we were both half way out the door, Motability and Kwik Fit will be receiving a strongly worded letter shortly lmao.

TBH he didnt help his case in the 1st place by going to Kwk Fit and giving them carte blanche to do what they want.
Should of specified which tyres he wanted. Then not taken car with ones he didnt want.
Should of asked for proof the discs were warped.
ABS fault might not be related
Old Tyres would of been disposed of within 2-3 days anyway.
Knock you out bit is unprofessional though!

It's a mobility car, he HAS to go to Kiwk Fit. The ABS is not at fault, the tyres are so shit they just can not grip. I over heard the guy who said Ben's brakes were fine say to another Kwik Fit that they had 1mm of pad left...and there's me reading a sign on the wall that said "Kwik Fit recommend you replace your brake pads when they are 3mm or less....and always get your wheels realigned when you've had new ones fitted.
They are scum.

Afraid i would agree..
You really cant expect much more going to Kwik Fit.....can you ?
As soon as the guy said what he did after putting the car on the ramp, i am afraid i would have at that point, been leaving with my car.
When your mate discovered they were putting on NCT5's or had put them on, i would have at that point made comment. Although i find it strange they never told him what tyres they were putting on beforehand.
I wouldnt trust them to do brakes anyways as a third point....
And lastly, theres not really much point in going back AFTER you and your mate have already agreed the tyres are crap in the wet....using them for a few days.....then going back.....
His attitude wasnt professional, but plenty of chances to walk away beforehand i would have said....
Sorry.

That's true about seeing what tyres were on it but like I said, he has to go to Kwik Fit as they are partners with Mobility The bit about asking for his old tyres back was only for humour, we knew there was a strong chance they would not have them.

I've had trouble with Kwik Fit before, my tracking was well out and they wouldn't touch the car as it was lowered my dad ended up sorting by lining the front wheels up with the rear ones by using a straight edge. Not ideal I know but it sorted the problem. I use ATS to get my tracking done and have no probs at all, the guy who done tthe work even has a Saph himself so I felt in safe hands. I can get my bro to fit tyres as hes a mechanic for Swain Jones, but like you said above some people have to go to certain places due to ties between companies - so much for freedom of choice.

NCT 5s were standard fit on late Pumas, they are not a bad tyre really. Although, I would never fit them or go to Quick fit. The handling problems are probably coming from another cause.

motability are shocking in reality, is the focus an automatic though with it being automatic then it probably could go through the brakes quickly as your allways braking instead of changing down a gear!
motability wont let my dad have a new motability car because he claimed on the insurance more than 3 times in 3years! twice wasnt even our fault some one keyed it all the way round and sum one stole the stereo the 3rd was out fault cause it hit the post at our house now we thought we were being responisble and looking after the car by fixing it imediatly so it looked ok but according to motability we were wasting there insurance! but they never told us that we could pay for repairs our self either we were allways told to just claim it from insurance, if we had known that we would have done half the jobs privately!

so if said company told quick fit to fit goodyear then thats what you got a pair of good year tyres

I think the overall idea is don't go to missfit. Last time my mate went there some idiot drove his capri into a tyre balencing machine trying to get it on the ramp
