Default ST170 Motor(Zetec) into MkIV Escort will it go ?

Was wondering if an ST170 motor would go into a Series II RS Turbo without too much bother as its just a Zetec.

Anyone done anything like this before ?

its not a zetec mate its a duratec tottally different engine mounts compared to a zetec so this will be your main problem id imagine

think the focus rs engine though is a zetec so that will go in with a lot less hassle id imagine

Bollocks! No disrespect. The ST170 engine is a Focus s3 zetec block with a nicer head on it.

It'll mount in without too much trouble Neil, same gearbox pattern and the engine mount is the same as the earlier Zetec/ZVHs, 2 bolts line up as standard, mod the mount for the others.

It's been done yep, the engine in Jamsport's car is an ST170 one, I recall another person doing it aswell...

A true Duratec is all alloy, different gearbox pattern and engine mounts yep!

Don't let the ST170s alloy looking cam cover fool you, its a S3 Zetec under there! Cast Iron block, as per the rest of the Focus engines, just a fancy head

The hardest part will be the wiring, im sure it has all the PACS or whatever it is called.

Good luck

You might even mean PATS (passive anti theft system)

You might have some problems with the gearbox as it uses a hydraulic clutch.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm fairly up on the ST170's but only in RWD format as I spend alot of time with Dave Colledge at Retro Ford in Corby and he's done several now on bike bodies and on Jenveys with Weber Alpha and on Omex but I was interested to know how much work would be involved in sticking one in my Missus's RS Turbo should the CVH decide to give up the ghost.

As 170bhp is 40bhp up on her standard turbo motor, its totally reliable and probably more efficient and on top of that, no turbo to worry about

Plus ST170 motors come up cheaper than a rebuild......

Something to think about anyway.
